GLC63 break-in period

Hi all,

I have revently purchased a brand new glc63. Love the car, but restraining myself from flooring it pisses me off.
This is a 2nd amg car we have purchased from MB dealer within a year, sales department including finance manager said that break-in period for AMG is 2k miles.
It was weird to me when I heard about 2k. Regardless my wife never took hers above 3k rpm I beilieve and not exceeded 75-80 mph. So now here I am at 560 miles.

So I decided to do some digging myself. What I found is everyone on forums for generic AMG forums say that you can enjoy your car all the way to red line after 1k miles.
There even was a youtube clip of some MB mechanic also saying 1k mile is where break-in ends. Also there is a claim that even the booklet that comes with a car says 1k and then gradually increase, but increase to what ...

What do you all think?
Dealship is full of it? Why would they know not know this?
May be dont want to do the 1850 diff service?

Thanks in advance. Hopefully folks who financed their car can chime in, as for those who lease them of course will say “have fun with it”, “drive it like you stole it”.

they might be mistaking the differential service for break-in.

my sticker which is still on my windshield i believe says 1k, then there is a second sticker for differential service at 1800 miles.

fwiw, i enjoy my cars from 100 miles. of course, i d not redline the car unnecessary but i would accelerate rationally and go 100mph well before 1k miles.

Thank you for your responses. Checked my windshield for the sticker.
> 1000k miles - not much info, just says dont do anything crazy. i guess cant go faster than 75mph and rps below 3k.
< 1000k, says dont go over 4.5k rpm and not above 85mph.

Now it seems like dealership was sort of correct about 2k.
So more fun after 1K and lots of fun after 2k.

I want to do a proper breakin so engine last for a long time.

thanks again

to add to this, I just took my GLC 63 to my dealer for the differential change. according to them , my car did not need it because it did not have the electronic locking diff mentioned in the owners manual.

I am thoroughly confused. Does this make sense? I thought EVERY GLC 63 regardless of what packages you add has the diff that requires service.

Very strange. I think they just dont understand what GLC63 is.
That brand new car needs caring earlier than GLC63.
i have read that diff service must be done at 1850 miles or so.

I was surprised when I checked this out but the "S" model has electronic locking the other models have AMG limited slip. If you looked at the specs for both vehicles you will see they are different

Thank you for the information about the rear diff at 1850, I guess when I am there miles wise, I will pressure the dealer to do it.

I have decided that the next 400 miles I will not get the rpms higher than 3k and once over 1k I will go all the way to 4.5k.

Want to be a good owner.

Changed Rear-diff oil GLC63 none-s at 1900 miles

My experience follows. I went by the windshield sticker & did the rear-diff oil change. Was in Orlando, Florida, & called 3 or 4 Mercedes service centers around me for their opinion and price quote. One service center said no need. The others said it is requiered. Went with the one with cheapest quote ~$250. Took about 1.5 hours to complete and the tech working on car came out and we talked. He said u gotta do the rea-diff oil change.

MBusa customer service emailed me back. It is required and should be covered by the PPM plan that I purchased. they called the dealer and spoke to the service manager.
I called two other dealers. one told me it was recommended but not required so it is not covered and will be $500+
The other was unable to give me any sort of guidance. Im disappointed the dealer knows less than the customer.

If it’s a big deal just do the rear diff at home. Took me 1 hour to do.

also the break in is a hoax. They just don’t want people wrecking their cars and to learn the power before they go all out.

Ive owned many cars and if my Ferrari came broken in with 51 miles then the Mercedes will be fine.

As as I said before drive it hard and seal it all up lol

Here is the response from MB USA from my query regarding differential service on my 18' GLC 63 Coupe -

"The rear axle differential oil is only to be replaced if a vehicle is equipped with option codes 471, 467, and P30. A review of our records indicate your vehicle is equipped with code 471, and based on this information, the rear axle differential oil should be changed according to the specified interval. The service should be performed at 2,000 miles, then every 3 years/30,000 miles after.'

Hopefully this helps ~

just an update : got this done at the dealer under my PPM contract. the tech was extremely nice and apologized since he missed the code on the next screen for "471" that is my vehicle. Im unsure what it would cost without PPM, but it was 3 bottles of fluid, loctite, and some sort of adhesive.

Thank you for following up. I also purchased pre maintenance plan. Good thing it covers the diff oil at 1800k.
You are getting to the finish line of 2k. Congrats
