New tires

I am not sure why I get excited when I have to buy new tires .....NEW TIRES ON THE WAY...hopefully I can get 8,000 miles out of them. Went with MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4S vs the P-Zero's that I normally run.

I kind of get it but I didn't purchase a 500+ Horsepower car to limit it with tires.

Why not the P 0 Scorpion A/S? Save Tire/Rubber rating, they look less aggressive I get that, but all the other specs are the same (or very close) except for thread wear which is much better? Just asking.. I know I'll have to replace my tires in the first 10k anyway, so this thread caused me to look :-)

If you are talking to me, I decided to go with Michelins after exhaustive research and quizzing people I know that have used them. I actually forgot I had them on one of my SQ5s and according to my own notes "loves them".

No way an As is going to even be close.

How many miles did you get out of the P Zeroes? I’ll be switching over to my winter set soon and probably trashing the P Zeroes at 11.5k. I’m also planning to go with the PS4S in the spring.

Right at 9,000 which is my AMG record on tires.

Cool... Yeah, just curious... I've driven the A/S's on a Q7, but that's a totally different and 1k heavier vehicle. Thanks!

My 63 came with P Zeros and I got 7000 miles out of them. I am currently running P4S and just took them off for the winter. They have 9000 miles on them and I am anticipating at least 3000 more before they need replacement. The P4S is a far superior tire in all respects, especially in the rain where the PZeros were terrible.

I knew they were great on dry and wet roads but didn't anticipate more tire life. That's really good news.

What's the load rating on those 4s you spec'd out XL or SL?

Xl

Purchased from Tire Rack and installed at a local place for $68.

TR had/has a $70 Visa Card promotion and a 2 year roadside hazard special going on.

Any recommendation for all season 21" for 63? Tire Rack is showing only R rated touring tires for all season?

The R and ZR ratings are old.

Nowadays, the marking ZR is not relevant but it is still used in the catalogs of manufacturers and tire retailers.
Look for the speed ratings V,W,Y to find the modern equivalent to ZR tyres and not for the marking ZR.
What really matters is the speed rating (V,W or Y) that correlate to maximum speed of 149, 168 and 186.

Thank you all for the reply. I got a little confused with the tire sizes noted on the 2020 order guide which showed 265/45/21 and 295/40/21 (taller side walls). Good to know we have options for all season alternatives at reasonable prices. I normally run DWS06 but looks like not available in our sizes.

Haha nice. I'm sure you'll love the Michelins, they're supposed to be the best. Was going to go with them too but at the time couldn't find them in stock and wanted to go with something wider, so went a different route.
I like buying tires (and good ones) too. Putting no name cheap tires on even an average car makes no sense to me.

Now that it's gotten cold in the Bay Area (by California standards) the crabbing on the stock PZeros is annoying the everloving ##&$#* out of me. I had the Michelin PS4S on my E63 and loved them, and recall from some other threads here that a change in tires significantly reduces the crabbing. However the existing tires have only 6k on them and tread looks good, and the Michelins are $1500 for a set so I'm hesitating.

The Michelin PS4S will also crab when temps are below 50F

Looks like I need all-seasons then... hate to go with Pirelli but their 21s are only around $1000 for all four and I do see some good reviews on this forum.

Just to confirm, does crabbing problem go away with all season tires on 63? Thanks

Yup, the Pirelli All-Seasons solved it. These tires should have been on the car to begin with, what the hell was Mercedes thinking?

By crabbing do you mean the front tires skipping and stuttering when making a tight radius turn when the tires are cold?

Never mind. I found the answer on the 21" Tires thread nearby.
