Tint question

After spending a few hours reading I am still confused. Is the common wisdom to get the rear windows tinted over factory tint? I am mainly concerned about heat reduction and would normally get ceramic tint. I found some articles that newer MB vehicles already block UV, but does it mean that block heat as much as a good ceramic film like LLumar?

and a second question, I am going to do the fronts for sure - does anyone know the % of the rear windows so I can get the same matching shade? Not worried about legal limits as I am in Florida and even cops cars are tinted well over limit.

You and I are on the exact same page! I was literally just looking into this. I'm taking it into a tinting place Friday if you don't get there first.
I was going to do the front windows with legal tint (Hawaii) and then darker on the rears if possible. We have a newborn in the back seat all the time and that sun beats down pretty good. I hate those sun shade cover suction cup things so tint it is.

I kept the rear stock since I wanted the front and rear to match. If I went darker on the rear the fronts would be even more illegal. As it is, I was pulled over the very first day I had the windows tinted.

No tint on the windshield.

found a good thread here (search for tint keyword on that page as there is a lot of posts there)
https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2621052

and a research paper here:
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...rticle/2522190

still on a fence whether to do a clear film on rear to have better heat reduction / and UV/IR block

This is going to be picky, but if you want them all to match, u need to go darker on the front 2 doors. Reason being is once you tint the front 2 doors, less light gets in the cabin and the rear windows now look darker. The only real light comes from the front windshield so the front 2 windows naturally look lighter if all windows have the same % tint. FWIW..

I also have never tinted over factory tint so I can't comment there though.

If you are going for heat repel definitely do all windows. I did CIR all around. Make sure to include your moon roof/panorama. The heat can be unbearable coming through the top. I did double layer 20 on fronts, 20 all around, 20 on panorama roof and 50 on windshield.

thanks guys for your help. Just got back from a tint shop. Ended up doing the front sides (Llumar CTX IR 15% which he told me is really rated as 18%) and the front windshield (Llumar CTX IR 50%). It was a rainy day but I like how it turned out. If heat will be a problem I can go back and do the rear windows. He was going to actually measure the IR % on the rear windows as he had a device for it but because it was raining and cloudy, he could not do it unfortunately.

He was surprised how dark the factory glass was.

Here is some pics

man I have to get GLC63, I am really impressed this my wife's 43 but 63 is a whole different story. I have 2019 Charger Scat Pack which I love to death but I think my next car will be GLC63.

where do you guys live that 20 is legal. I would get pulled over and/or never pass inspection. I know we get a pass on the rear windows as that's how they come from the factory but the rest is no bueno.

perks of living in Florida and there are no inspections here. Technically cops can still give you a ticket for it, but practically every 3rd car you see around has dark tints and they have bigger fish to fry. Also most of them have limo tint on their patrol cars.

What I would love to start seeing them inforced, is people who use phones while driving. It is getting worse every day and I argue these people are more dangerous than some of us speeding but actually paying close attention to road.

Nice picture of your car.

I have never noticed the heat coming in from my roof and I live in Texas. I don't know what they used on my windows, I just told them to make it as dark as they legally can, but they are dark. Also a black car with black interior just seems to look darker.

It's crazy now that the time has changed, when I get out of them gym it is dark and I truly can't see my car in the parking lot.
