Ceramic Coating question

Hi - first post here. Just ordered my 43 a little over a week ago (Lunar Blue), and I'm reading up on paint protection. I'd never heard of ceramic coating before, I'd always heard about plastic film. If money were no object, would you do one or the other? Both?

Thanks,
Tim

Money being no object, put PPF on most of the car and then ceramic coat over the top.

Money no object, do both. Money an object, do PPF on front of vehicle (bumper, full hood, fenders, and mirrors) and maybe rockers, but I’d pass on ceramic and do good exterior detail twice a yr. Had both on my 43 and if doing it over would not go for ceramic for the price of three coats. Ceramic also looked like $-hit on the section right in front of rear wheels where I’m guessing small rocks hit that area. That was with only 7500 miles on the vehicle...granted color of 43 was black, so showed everything and magnified the ceramic “chips” as I’ll call them. Ceramic does make things a bit easier to clean, but you are supposed to do upkeep on ceramic as well.

Congrats on your 43 order!

I always just do ppf. Ceramic coating is a hoax. If you get off on water beading off your car then get it lol. Ppf is true protection and if done correctly you can’t tell it’s wrapped with it.

Had a full frontal XPEL film done on my 43. So far it has protected the paint job from rock chips and dirt rinses off easily. Had the wheels ceramic coated and they remain easy to clean. If money were no object get a full frontal wrap and ceramic coat the rest along with ceramic coat tint the driver and rear passenger windows.

Just did full front Xpel ultimate plus film and ceramic pro coating. Ceramic is so worth it imo. Helps keep the car cleaner, way easier to wash the car, and that shine!!!

Yeah ceramic is a joke. Zero protection against paint chips and contrary to claims, it does swirl and scratch so the $$$$ spend on paint correction essentially goes to waste (ask me how I know as a former owner of a black E63). Whereas a good PPF is absolute protection for the paint. On top of the PPF and any uncovered paint (if you didn't get full protection) you can use a spray sealant like HydroSilex to achieve the benefits of ceramic at 1% of the cost and a bit of extra labor (re-application every 6 months or so).

having done this to my S5 I can say never again. its great for beading water and useless for everything else. ppf is the way to go. my new 43 will likely get front and rear protection if it doesnt cost an arm and a leg.
