Model Y Performance

May be I am crazy for trying to compare/cross shop but has anyone considered the upcoming model Y performance for under $60K and 3.5 0-60? Ugly as sin and sounds like nothing but I am drawn to its performance.

As long as the V8 engines are being produced i will stay with one as the combination of sound and performance is a second to none for me. On the other hand nothing can compare with the instant torque of an electric motor. It comes down to your personal choice.

I will honestly buy the model 3 and stay on the ground over the Model Y. The reason I compromise with the GLC is for cargo space, hence I did not opt for the coupe.
At the end of the day, the Tesla models are good at what they are meant for: electric.

I really want to get one for my wife but the cost-cutting really drives me nuts. i need some buttons. I will pay a premium for real leather seats, preferably with Alcantara inserts.
Most importantly, I need some color. give me red as a seat option, give me a fluorescent blue as a body color.

I drove a model 3 a few months ago. Teslas have terrible interiors. Cheap and ugly and the seats are super uncomfortable. I'm 6' 200 lbs and I felt like I was driving a coffin.

Also, they are super heavy and corner like crap.

No thanks

Good point - I guess Y compares more in line with the Coupe. I just wish S was available for the SUV in US... Glorious AMG sound is undeniable for sure!

Also, no air suspension on 3 and Y, I believe.

I’m still not getting this whole Tesla thing. Have had a short time in a Model S and did nothing for me. Impressive off the line, but just reminded me of a high priced golf cart with no soul. Sure as hell wish I bought the stock awhile ago, however.

yeah I dont get it either. Dodge Charger Hellcat is roughly the same size as Model S and similar acceleration and handling (ie both heavy AF).

Interior quality is similar as long as you dont care about a huge touch screen

aaand you can buy a lot of gas for the difference in price. Model S = $125k, Hellcat = $72k, thats a $52k difference. At rough estimate of $4000 annual fuel costs, you can drive the hellcat for 13 years before you break even on the difference in price. Well, that not counting how much your electric bill goes up with the tesla (too much work to do that math)

Ok, the S has a bigger trunk. If you care about that you could run the numbers on a durango hellcat. but my point stand. Compare a tesla to any gas vehicle and you are paying a premium to pretend you are doing the earth a favor

I can't stand the interior of Model 3 so I immediate don't like Y.

Driven 3 and S plenty of time and as a tech guy, I found them to be intriguing but not engaging. But if Tesla ever built a car that is remotely close to MB's interior quality/style, I may consider it as a daily driver.

May be Porsche will bridge this gap with Taycan and future Macan which presumably will be electric.

Remain to be seen if it's going to be a rebadged e-tron which is based on the old MLB platform or if they are going to spin up a new platform just for Macan.

The tough part is that Macan will be based on MLB Evo and E-tron is based on decade old MLB. Keeping everything body/interior bits compatible between ICE and EV Macan on different platforms would be an interesting challenge.

You do understand that the people arguing about Tesla are the ones who haven’t owned a true high horsepower vehicle. Coming from a Kia or a Nissan and feeling instant torque they don’t want anything else. I’ve been in the game of cars a long time. I’d gladly take that top end with noise than lowend in silence.

I was an engineer at Tesla for a short time after college. Being a car guy I thought it would be the perfect job for me. But I quickly realize how much Tesla is different from a tradition car in terms of philosophy. And this may or may not be a good thing depending on how you feel about cars. I find that Tesla owners in general sees a car as an appliance. A souless box with interesting gimmicks used to get from point a to point b without any drama. Don't get me wrong I'm a advocate of electric/alternative fuel vehicles. But the market is still young. The Tesla philosophy may be great for some but it's not for everyone. Tesla is currently miles ahead with battery and motor tech but other areas leave something to be desired. Which is why I'm rooting for more competition. We need more Taycan type electric cars in the world and soon. The GLC63 may very well be my last internal combustion engine car.

Loads of people will tune it. Look for A250 tunes, it's the same engine.

Brabus do a chip, so others will.
