GLC43 2020 Upgrades

Hi All,

New owner shortly with my expected GLC43 arriving in Late May, Early June (in Australia) Excited to receive it, as it has been on my list for a new car last several years and happy I decided on this (coming from a C250).

For those who have just purchased, or have already one, are there any upgrades (non-factory) that you would recommend? Was thinking a performance chip? But even then not sure where to start, as there are many on the market.

What would be your recommendations?

Thanks

Congratulations - what colour and spec? Fellow Aussie here, I've got my GLC 43 arriving into port tonight so hopefully will take delivery in the next two weeks. Until then, I will struggle to sleep!

Few things on my 'wish list' depending on how I feel when I actually get a good look at the car:

1. Exhaust valve module - When I test drove the car it sounded awesome (as we don't get the OPF here in Australia), bit like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dzX...ature=youtu.be However, I think you can install a simple exhaust valve module that forces open the exhaust flaps 100% all the time. Might be something of interest and it's 100% reversible to stock. However, it only works if you have the performance exhaust with button on centre console. Renntech make one but the 2020 is not listed as compatible so would need to ask them: https://www.renntechmercedes.com/ind...253-pfl-detail
2. Updated air vents - noticed you can get the next gen air vents for the GLC, cosmetic only but they do look nice and easy enough to install: https://marsperformance.com.au/New-U...S205-GLC-Class
3. Carbon mirror caps - the black ones look good standard, but I may contemplate carbon ones in the future to be different.
4. Paddle shifters - I will need to drive the car quite a bit first, but extended paddle shifters may be of interest. These ones here were for the pre-FL steering wheel so probably won't fit though: https://autotecknic.com/collections/...10120550088746
5. Door puddle lights - no idea if the standard 43 has door lights, but if they do, then might look at getting an AMG version: https://gtautoparts.com.au/product/m...ogo-projector/
6. Alloy door lock pins - I believe the door pins for the GLC 43 are the same as W205 but will look into it further. The front doors are screw-in I believe, but the rears require the door panel to be removed: https://www.ebay.com/itm/292942174133
7. Brake calipers - the standard silver colour is boring IMO, so I will probably get them repainted to differentiate the car from others. My car is brilliant blue so in my opinion the only colour that really works would be a goldish colour (similar to MB carbon ceramics, without the 'carbon ceramic' logo of course! If you want them done properly you'll pay a bit but probably worth it to get a flawless finish.
8. Paint correction and ceramic coating - I am going to get the paint corrected and ceramic coated. I have toyed with the idea of getting the front PPF'ed but prices range from like $1,600 to almost $3k and I think as long as you don't tailgate people you'll mitigate your risk of paint chips to the front. Also helps the facelift gets the new AMG grille which reduces the painted surface area a bit.

I probably won't get any ECU tunes as I have no experience with how MB Australia will treat that should any problems arise (particularly with the new 5 year warranty we get). I am coming from a 139kw car, so the 43 will be more than powerful enough for my taste... at least for the first six months :P If I were to get a tune, I'd probably take the car to Allen at International Auto-haus as from what I've heard he is the go-to-guy with Mercs and will deliver the goods.

Hi Mate

Thanks for responding, great to see another fellow Aussie on here.

I ended up going with the Brilliant Blue.

From an options point of view I got the ::
  • Ventilated Seats
  • Window Tint
  • 21" Bicolour Wheels
  • Carbon Fibre Pack
  • Black Leather with Red Stitching
Not sure whether I should have added in some other options now that you mention.

My build date is supposed to be May. Thanks for all the info above, I appreciate it.

Great stuff - my spec is nearly identical to yours, except I didn't go with ventilated seats or red stitching. I wasn't that fussed with the running boards but got them as I figured they could at least help from a paint protection perspective (maybe a bit like mud flaps).

There aren't really any additional factory options for us. My list above are all aftermarket mods.

I believe MB Australia quote 75-80 days from build to delivery so you're probably looking at sometime in August without factoring in any coronavirus trouble. Hopefully you get it sooner though.

Interesting. What options did you go on yours? I decided not to get the AMG seats, as the missus has them in her A45, and i feel like i am in a race car. I wanted the brown interior, but they didnt make it here so stuck with the black.

Good idea about the paint protection,I will look at that once I get it.

Interesting re the 75-80 days, as I have been told the opposite, no delays from the dealership, hopefully its alot sooner than that.

Mine is brilliant blue with carbon trim, standard seats (not ventilated sadly), performance exhaust, 21" bicolour wheels, running boards, black leather and grey stitching, rubber mats, rubber boot tray and towbar. I like the look of the performance seats but not prepared to pay ~$4k for it!

In terms of timing, give it 2-3 weeks from build date to be loaded onto a ship which then takes about 45-55 days to reach the east coast of Australia. Then you add 1-2 weeks for customs clearance and transport to the dealership before you get the keys. Hopefully the Daimler plants shutdown due to COVID-19 doesn't push build dates out too far - I think they have already re-opened (or will be in the next week or so)!

Awesome. Have just reached out to the dealer to see if i can add the performance exhaust. After watching your videos posted, I thought it was a must!

I love the updated air vents, wonder if those ship to Japan.

I, too, want the alloy door lock pins but they do not ship to Japan. I have been unable to find them locally.

Thanks for sharing.

Not sure if it's just my car or me, when in S+ and value 100% open, I can feel a tiny bit of rumble in the cabin at idle. Faint but definitely there and loud when launching/cruising. I love it but depends on who I carry as passengers, may not want to have that open all the time.

From what I've read on this forum and online, the valves open up 100% at something like 4-5k RPM and above. Under that, they are partially open - not sure what % though.

Yes I think a module that keeps them open 100% all the time might need to be met with some caution, particularly if you're just using the car as a daily with other passengers. From what I've read, the modules have a remote control that allows you to change the flaps on the fly like the button in the cabin. I believe the remote 'replaces' the cabin button functionality.
