Dash Cam
I recently took possession of a 2020 GLC 43 coupe and am interested in installing a dash cam. For those who have done so, I would appreciate any advice. Mercedes sells a front and rear cam for about $1,000 Cdn, including installation (
Thanks in advance.
The hardest part was getting the rear camera wire thru the rear hatch gromett and boot and determining best switched/unswitched fuses for 'add a fuse' locations at driver's side fuse' box, but came out neat and tidy in the end and took about 2.5hrs being careful.
If you are not handy or don't understand vehicle wiring I would leave it to a shop.

There is no less than 5 cameras/sensors under the windshield if you have Distronics and 6 is you count the one in front grill. And not one can serve as dash cam? Heck, I will even provide my own SSD for footage if they don't want write wear on their internal system.

2020 fuse box is different than the prior to facelift model. Fuse panels to the driver side or the passenger side footwell will supply constant power even when engine is shut off. You will need to tap the one under the trunk should you decide to use a fuse tap. The fuse diagram/map is tucked away in the rear fuse compartment neatly also, it's a b^tch to get it out.
If you run dual channels (with a rear camera), i'd suggest you run the cabling the following way:
1. Video cable - go through the passenger side run it along the side of the roof liner (pull down the door gaskets) and tuck the cable behind. Yes, the rear hatch grommet was a PITA, but it's doable. The trick is to use a coat hanger (straight) and pull through a fishing/nylon cable, spray some lubricant into the rubber grommet (in my case, I sprayed tire shine/wax). Tie the nylon cable with the video cable and pull the micro usb cable through.
2. Power cable - go behind the A pillar (search video on how to remove A Pillar safely), run it along with the wiring loom that's already there, zip tie to the loom). Remove the panel next to the glove box (essentially the opposite of the driver-side fuse box panel), so you run it down to the passenger footwell. Run it behind the footwell fuse panel cover and route the power cable under/along the sill plate all the way to the back bench. Pull up/remove the bench seat and route the cable behind the cargo side liners. The felt liners have enough flex that you should be able to fish the power cable all the way to the fuse box location.
Had wish I could leverage the Augmented Reality built-in camera, but actually was pretty satisfied with the unit i got. Here is why: this unit obviously is meant for dashcam purpose, so it has GPS built it so the recordded videos contain GPS info. Also it comes with OTA ability to update the firmware if you download its phone app and can update vis BT from your phone. Lastly, this dashcam also alerts you when you are above the speed limit and also when a speed trap camera is approaching - additional features included in this dashcam.
