Production time frame

My 2021 Amg Glc 63 w4 just went into production last week. What kind of time frame can I expect before it arrives at the dealership I live in the Midwest? Also can I track any updates with the vin or just when it is on a cargo ship. Thanks

Hey there. I ordered my 21-year model 63 In August and tracked mine every step of the way. It is now en route to the dealer over here in metro Detroit. Can't Wait! As soon as you place the order for it, you may not see or hear of any movement for a few weeks. My salesman wasn't too helpful on the tracking of it, so I contacted Shahul @ susman@eurogermantown.com. Super awesome guy! Gave him the VIN and he told me everything I would want to know.

Normally, your dealer has to provide actual production updates, but once its assigned to a shipper and a boat you can then track the boat on the maritime tracking sites. I don't remember the timeframe, I think mine started build in November and I got the car in mid-December. It took like 2 weeks to cross the Atlantic. This was all pre-covid. the waiting was brutal.

Same here. Timing is everything though as mine was only at the port in Germany for a day.. takes about 2 weeks to cross to a port and they normally stop at several ports so it depends where in the sequence you are.

I ordered same time and from order to delivery it was 6 weeks for me. GLC63 2020.

According to my salesman...

my GLC63 has been sitting at port in Baltimore for nearly 2 weeks now because the “federal government hasn’t released the model nationwide”

does anyone else know anything about this?

It's pretty damn disappointing Mercedes Benz USA doesn't have an app like BMW where customers can track their production status and see when it started and finished.

my GLC43 arrived in Baltimore on Oct 14 and didn’t make it to dealership (also in MD) until Oct 26.

This is fairly common. The GLC43's are normally processed/released early, where the GLC63s are processed/released later. Its due to paperwork related to emissions or something else. The cars will sit in port until someone does some paperwork to 'allow' them to be on the roads, then they are released to the shipper. It's normally about this time that they are released but its hard to tell with COVID.

To clarify, this is for new model years. So a 2021 GLC63 will sit, but they would release a 2020 GLC63 that came on the same boat.

So with this being said, Im really wondering when the 21 models will be released. I just asked my dealer if I could pick mine up from the VPC and he said it was not an option. Not sure if he was being totally honest or not though. Shahul said that it was VPC ready as of 11-6. Wondering what our realistic time-frame is for this 21 model year to be released.

You typically cannot pick up cars from VPC, they almost always require to deliver it to the dealer. I received an early allocation last year, but it didn't make it over until December, therefore the 2020 model year GLC63 had already cleared customers/EPA; it took like 1 day to get delivered from VPC to Euro Germantown. My recollection in watching last years orders and the year before is that in general, for some paperwork reasons, the 63s sit at VPC until November. My guess, COVID aside, is that it would be any day now. I know this doesn't help, i remember how anxious i was last year.

Talked to my salesman this past weekend...

he’s hoping the GLC63, as well as other AMG models, gets released by the government this week. He says this can typically happen with the new model years, although Covid seems to have its impact on the delay.

He also anticipates cars that haven’t been built or shipped yet will take much longer now due to the latest Covid wave.

Sounds like some good news. Fortunately for me, mine is already built and at the VPC waiting to be picked up. Hopefully, you guys are able to get yours soon as well.

So - Found out some more news on the release. Looks like most, if not everything has been cleared by the government regarding the emissions testing and all. You can check it out yourself on fueleconomy.gov. Our cars are listed there for the 21 model year. What we are waiting on is for Mercedes to release the 21 model year as they have been trying to finish off the 20 year builds and get them delivered to the dealers. Once this is complete, we will get our deliveries. Browsing around in the G Wagen forum, they were talking about a December timeframe. Most were saying the beginning of December, but I mean it could be any time since we don't have any other info to go off of.
