Extracting pops and crackles

Hi I have a GLC 63 S and I can extract a pop/crackle or two only by downshifting. It’s not very impressive either. I had a Jag F Type R that sounded like a firecracker when you feathered the throttle. Is there any trick to extracting more pops from this exhaust?

Don’t get me wrong...the exhaust note itself is quite impressive. I just can’t get it to really crackle much. Thanks.

As far as I know, a tune would be the only way to increase the bangs and pops.

But I'm still a newbie owner haha

What year is your car? The USA changed some exhaust rules recently to quieten the loudest European cars. For example, the new Jag F-Type R (no SVR this year) has been "de-sounded" from an exhaust perspective:
"Another big change for 2021 is the "more rounded, more mature" exhaust note. In the opening paragraph, I briefly mentioned the exquisite, animalistic noise the old F-Type used to make. However, the exhaust on the new R is different from the old SVR in that it’s slightly tamer. If you're not familiar, it was beautifully obnoxious to the point of, "How can this be legal?" The V-6, too. I remember once sitting in the parking garage at MotorTrend headquarters behind the wheel of our long-term F-Type R. Parked a few spaces away from me was features editor Christian Seabuagh in a Dodge Hellcat. I'm probably 15 years older than Christian, but mentally we're both pre-adolescents. There we sat, each supercharged V-8 in park, revving and revving the engines. I believe the F-Type was not only louder but also more musical. Real brassy, real shreddy. Anyhow, that (admittedly) juvenile noise has been declawed, and the R's glorious cold start has been (partially) neutered. There's a Quiet mode for startup (and for your neighbors). The default is on, and it can switched off, but you gotta assume most owners are going to either never know about the option for a loud start or just never bother. Pity."

However - you can spend $10K on a Capristo exhaust system and get ALL the noise you want!

Tone and volume are a function of the exhaust system design, pops bangs and after combustion cycle explosions are a function of engine control unit calibration. The pops and bangs we hear (regardless of 43 or 63) are a result of excess fuel being added to the combustion chamber and being burnt or popped after the spark cycle. This can be manipulated by aftermarket tuning to happen more frequently and under more varied conditions than the OEM originally had tuned it for. Throttle on and snap off under engine braking is the way to extract it the most consistently under OEM conditions.

it’s a 2020

As noted I had a Jag F Type R and the exhaust was amazing. I like the exhaust note just as well on my AMG but I need the pops and cracks back that I had with the Jag.

I always try to be very aware of making sure my engine parameters are up to operating temp before "spirited" driving but I've found that in Sport or Sport + mode, then manual shifting mode, pick a gear, rev it up to 4/5k and lift off the throttle. This will allow the engine to brake and will generally create the conditions in which over run will add that extra fuel for the snap crackle pop we all enjoy so much I also get a great deal of enjoyment from manually shifting on back road driving; I've found that on the 2/3 and 3/4 shift if you flat foot it (throttle) and shift just a hair early (say 5k) it will give a very pleasant snap and bark on the wide open throttle upshift. I've been very pleased with the tone from my OEM exhaust, and it's the standard, non-performance version. These little people movers are so much fun

It is also to just barely roll into the throttle and then back immediately off when you are in a gear that is right around 2100 rpms and it gives a mean growl that everyone looks at. That is how I stir up races a lot.

Once you get the hang of what sbradley said and what I said, you can make whatever sound you want, on commend. Just go practice.

Also, when slowing down or coming to a stop, you can depress the left paddle and just hold it and it will keep jumping down the the lowest :safe" gear that is possible. That also makes some fun sound.
