My 2020 Hardwire Radar Detector Fail

All I wanted to do was hardwire a Uniden R7. I bought everything. I first learned that the fuse box on the driver's side dashboard does not have any switched circuits. I can throw away that wire kit. I then ordered a mirror tap harness. Too short, so I found one that is 3" longer (14"). Good. From what I gathered thru countless threads was that the BROWN AND GREEN taps on the mirror were ground and switched 12V, respectively. I pressed the pins of the detector harness into the brown and green slots and the detector lit up; bravo. It just won't shut off. I let it sit 15 minutes and then looked again...still on. I pulled the pins out and measured 12V across the terminals with the ignition off. These are not switched afterall.

Has anybody with a 2020 hardwired a cam or detector from the overhead console? Is anything in this thing switched? Ugh...

I am puzzled that the garage door opener seems to be on a switched circuit.....where is it?

There is 12V on the bottom left side of the glove box.

Switched?
I think several 2020 guys have used the brown and green mirror tap. I assumed it was switched....to me that means switched by the ignition....on in run and off in off. I am finding that this circuit will turn off if I get out and lock the doors. As soon as unlock the doors it powers up. If I don't lock the doors the detector seems to remain on. I have not yet let it run to see how long it will go....but I think I have gone as long as 15 minutes or so. If it is going to go off, I would think no more than 30 seconds after everything shuts off. Dunno. The Detector has a setting where it will shut off after 60 minutes of no activity.

There's more than one fuse box in the GLC. Looks like 4 of them. Maybe something contained here could help you. Should apply to the 2020 too.......

Thanks. Believe it or not, the re-reshed 2020 has different circuits. I am now all tapped into the brown/green mirror leads. The detector is up on the driver's visor and I only have about 3 or 4 inches of exposed power cable...going from the upper console over to the detector. If I lock my doors it will shut off. If I don't..not sure...but the detector shuts off by itself if I forget to lock. Uniden R7 is pretty great if anybody is looking.

same problem with my wife's GLC 43 2020. apparently no more switched slots in either fuse boxes on front. and mirror tap wire is not an option too because power in mirror is constantly off. I guess they took that 2020 refresh seriously. What did you end up doing? I wired my dashcam to the trunk fuse box but I do not want to do all this work again to wire radar detector. I have uniden R3 but it does not want to shut off by itself. Even when I locked the car, it stayed on for longer than 30 minutes.

When I learned of the 'switched circuit' in the mirror my expectation was immediately ON with ignition on and immediately OFF with ignition off. This is not the case (and I was initially disappointed), but it works just fine and does turn off after several minutes. I no longer sweat it. The installation was very easy with a short 'Inviscord' type cable from eBay. I have a hypothesis, here: there is an off delay on the mirror circuit for the purpose of allowing the garage door opener to be active for X number of minutes after ignition OFF. After a delay the circuit is then killed.

mine would not shut off after 30 minutes. I even locked the doors and checked back later and Uniden R3 would be still on. Do you happen to remember what wires you had under the mirror?

I only had one socket there with 4 slots. One slot was not used, one ground (brown wire), and one yellow (i think wipers/rain sensor) and one red/white for mirror.

here is a pic of mine

so apparently Uniden R3 has this cool feature. I think i can hook it up to mirror and let it shut off after an hour

BAT Saver
(GPS on)
Turns off power to the R3 if the speed stays at 0 or if the GPS is not connected for more than an hour.
On
Off (Default)

That does not look familiar. I recall 6 or 8 wire socket; brown and green were my taps for switched 12 volts.
