Excessive creaking at the hatch area…

Has anyone else experiencing this?

When driving my 2018 GLC43 there appears to be excessive creaking noises near the hatch area or around the rear interior cargo side panels. I’ve never had any issues with the vehicle (original owner, no accidents and just turned 20,000 miles) but thought I would ask other owners? And if so… what was the fix? Thanks

~ No I’m actually running all-seasons now. They’ve been on the car for about 5k.

I had a similar noise and it turned out to be the strut. Was changed under warranty.

If you don't mind me asking, what tires did you get? I can't find all-seasons for my 2020 43 that aren't run flats. Maybe the fitment was different on the 2018 and you actually had tire choices to pick from.

My 2020 43 uses 255/45/20 and 285/40/20, but I've heard people saying you can go down a bit on width and it works.

~ I actually had to bump up to the GLC63 tire sizes to find an all-season tire.

I see you have the 20” rims (not sure what’s available in that rim size)?

I went with the Pirelli Scorpion Zero (265/40/21 & 295/35/21). The look great and ride smooth as glass. I’ve had them on the my 43 for 7,000 miles. Love them.

See a few photos below.

Thanks for the info! I assume you meant the front's are 21" rims, not 22" yes? So you bought new wheels as well, or did you already have 21's? Looking for any options I can find to get rid of my 20" Goodyear run-flats!!

~ Sizes corrected (21” front and rear)… When I ordered the vehicle new I opted for the optional 21” rims. A must to complete the look for me and the vehicle.

You may have to bump up the the optional 21” wheels to find an all-season? It’s too bad the sizes are so limited.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking as well. Appreciate the help!

Did you have it fixed? I have the exact same issue on my 63S. The noise started after Mercedes Bodyshop replaced the tailgate. I took it to the dealership and they thought the noise was due to excessive movements of the sliding cover parts in the trunk and added some pads (I can't see where they attached them) but the noise is now even more audible!

Rear knocking noise GLC 43

The culprit is the tailgate locking mechanism. Same issue here. I was told by the dealer that it was the rear struts which i didn’t believe. One day while i was washing the car, i happen to hear same kind of noise while washing/pressing the tailgate. It cost me about 5 cents to fix instead of 1800$ like the dealership wanted to replace the 2 rear struts. This noise had been driving me nuts for the last year and now resolved.

~ Hello … can you please tell me what you did to fix it? Photos would be helpful as well. Thanks!

Electrical tape ! 1 or 2 turns. If you put too much the trunk won't close. This is what it is for now as a temporary fix. Permanent repair will be to replace the whole lock mechanism.

Thank you. I added black adhesive cloth tape to see if this works. Closes just fine. 🤞

The parcel shelf load cover in the trunk (SUV) was making creaking noises in my case. It comes and goes....
