How to change POI names in MBUX maps?
Finally, after a 7-month wait, I got my 2022 AMG GLC 43 SUV with almost all the options I wanted (only no dash cam and no wireless charger were available...) In general, I'm extremely happy with the car and all the bells and whistles, esp. the HUD, the intelligent lights and the entire Distronic Plus driver assistance package, but I'm frustrated with the navigation tools. The maps are from 2020, still not updated, with lots of well-established POIs missing. Entering an existing and well known address doesn't bring it up on the map as a destination... If only Android Auto would take advantage of the entire screen area, not like the current 50%, I would not even open the built-in maps.
Has anybody figured out how to change the name of a Previous or Favorite destination? Their 'Destination from Map 07/27/2022, 11:33am, city name', doesn't say anything really useful, and I can't find a way to customize it. There's a Delete option, but no Rename--is this the way it's supposed to work in 2022?

You can manually update the maps by going to the Mercedes me connect portal and download the available updates to a USB stick or SD-card if you have the latter, instead of waiting for an OTA update to hit. Your maps are definitely two years behind. The OTA update only updates your home region anyway, whereas with the manual update you can update all the regions in one swoop, and it also updates the voice recognition. Your POI searches might be a user error. The system searches online, and other than it being down at times, I've never had issues finding a POI. I just use voice commands saying "Navigate to <name of POI> and then it searches the local maps as well as performs an online search. Then you can further narrow down the results to just the online results for example. I don't use this often, though. Most of the time I look up my destination on my phone and then send it to the car ahead of time. This is all possible via the Mercedes me connect app. On my iPhone I can even send destinations from any app directly to the car. Just need to tap Share in the respective app, select Mercedes me as the target, confirm and within a couple of seconds it pops up on the screen in the car. Disclaimer, I don't have MBUX, I have the latest COMAND system, but it uses the same online services as MBUX.
As far as renaming previous destinations goes, I can't help you there. Never have a need to rename them, but also in my COMAND system it shows as the actual address and if it was a POI it also shows the name, so I never really have an issue identifying them and as far as I know there's no way to actually rename them. You should be able to rename Favorites, though, but again I don't use those either. I don't store destinations in the car really, as my phone is essentially my data source.

It says 2015-2021 but it does fit perfectly on the 22's as well. I have a S21 in a case and it fits inside and I can shut the lid if I want. It doesn't show it, but mine came with an additional USB port above the power switch so my passenger can charge via that port while mine charges wirelessly sitting on the pad.

Thanks, that's what I thought, that the AMZN listing was not up to date with the model years.
Also, thanks to superswiss for suggesting to send new destinations from the M-me app; it does find POIs and sends them to the car, the destinations that cannot be found when searched for on the dashboard screen--weird... No map updates are available for a download in my M-me app even though I received an email alerting me of their immediate availablility... They're probably rolling them out slowly.
Now, a more important question remains: how to change the name of a Previous or Favorite destination? I suspect it's not doable.

I got a notification from Mercedes Me once the map download was completed. I didn't try and download it on my own. It happened roughly 3-4 days after I got the email telling me it was coming. I just heard my phone make it's notification sound and looked and it was Mercedes Me saying map update completed or something to that effect-

Superswiss, I wanted to thank you for a very useful advice I did not get from my M-B dealer! The large map update (2022 US, 22 GB) went without a hitch, so I am all set. Thanks again!

You are welcome. Yeah, dealers don't really know this stuff. If you are lucky you get a sales advisor who actually knows more than just reading the instructions. Dealerships are supposed to have at least one person who is the contact for Mercedes me and is supposed to know it inside out, but in my experience that's also largely just a title they slap on somebody who still doesn't know it.

I went ahead and downloaded the wholes update last night, 22.3 Gb. I ran it this morning on the way to work. One thing I noticed, when you do the upgrade via USB, it requires you to restart the system (MBUX) and by doing that, if you had any other mods to your SW like I did with my ECO module, it zapped that and I had to re-install it. No big deal, only takes a minute or two. I noticed after the map update was completed and the system was updated then restarted, it takes the MBUX values back to default-

Very true; I noticed that after the update my phone's Android Auto doesn't show up as an option and the 'No Tolls' option was activated.
I'll have to go through all the settings and defaults to hunt for the Android Auto activation screen...

Actually, I found that the USB cable was not connected in the glovebox...
However, there is no USB port in the ash tray/lighter/phone area like the one in my wife's 2020 GLC 300 SUV, so to use Android Auto, I have to have a long USB cable going all the way over to the glove box. Somebody didn't think it through...

I found this cruising around on youtube-It was in the comments and questions below the video-
TO change a name of a POI, first of all, save your Sat Nav POI/destinations in your favorites (Star Button), then press the Star button (favorites) located in the center console or in the upper corner of the NAV display. From here find your favorite you want to change and hold your finger on the icon of the favorite on the screen. You should see a menu pop up, from here you can rename them to anything you’d like.
I haven't tried it yet, but should work-

Thanks, that's a good MBUX overview video; bookmarked!
However, no trick I've tried lets me change the destination name in Favorites or any other category. A long press on the star does nothing...
I can find the full destination and name on the Mercedes me app map to the car, but it appears on the Nav screen there in the same nondescript, uninformative way, even though the location, a coffee roaster and shop, is clearly named as such on the M-me map. Clearly, the Nav app needs some more work and fine tuning--or perhaps the difference stems from the fact that the video you linked to shows an augmented reality Nav app while mine is just a regular one and clearly does not have all the options seen on the Traffic screen and others...
Going to see the specialist at the dealer; let's see what they say...

i did a little experiment yesterday, I saved a POI in Google with a specific name. Pasted that into the Mme app and sent it to the car. What I pasted in had the name in it. When I got in the car, I cranked it up and about 1 min after, I got the notification of a POI, I clicked on it and saved to to my favorites but it did not have the name I assigned to it when I saved it originally in Google. It only sends across the address of the POI so it appears there is no "name" field in the data stream like you said in your test.

So, part of the problem appears to be the phone itself. I noticed this weekend that the name depends on how you send the destination from the phone. I usually use Google Maps to find a destination and then share it directly from GMaps with the car. However, this past weekend I happened to look up a place in Apple Maps, shared it with the car and it sent the name along with the address and now in the last destinations in COMAND it shows the name. When I share a destination from GMaps, then it only shows the address. I can see the difference on the phone when sharing the destination. You can see below that the name is the street and number when I share from GMaps, but when I share from Apple Maps it has the actual name there. I can tap the pencil next to it and edit the name, but I usually don't do that. however that is one way to rename it, but one problem is clearly that Google Maps doesn't pass the name along in the name field, while Apple Maps does.

Thank you for your wonderful debugging work--I could not find an iPhone in my home!
Other than that, a working pencil icon on the MBUX Nav screen would solve the problem.

Very good investigative work SS! I was only playing from my Android as I have my Mercedes Me account set up on my personal phone (S21). My work phone is an Apple but I didn't want my MMe stuff on it. Interesting! But still there is no way to edit it once you get it into MBUX, it is as it comes!

Good news!--the POI renaming problem has been solved.
The first step was to fix the registration of my Mercedes me app with my car, something(?) was not set up quite right, but re-registering the app fixed some minor issues, like the false No connection warning screen etc.
Secondly, once you locate your POI/place on the MBUX Nav maps, save it as a Favorite, but then, and this is a critical, but undocumented step, press the Fav (STAR) button on the right side of the steering wheel (clicking on the screen star etc. will not help.) This opens a screen with a number of large Favorites square icons; do a long press on the one you want to change, and a drop-down menu appears that lets you rename it, change the order of the icons, delete it etc.
