I’m sorry but I think that looks butt ugly!!! In reference to the wrapped photos of the new 2020 GLE. So happy I bought a 2018. To me looks are equally important as performance, with electronics least important.

My new baby Pics are ugly....Ouch!

For those that need a 2nd set of winter tires there appear to be some aftermarket options for wheels. There are a decent number of AM wheels that match the rear wheel offset. There are also some spacer kits available that can be used on the front to get close to a match of the staggered offset. Some come with longer and stronger bolts. On the Audi forum there is a wheel thread where users have added wide wheels(10+”) and spacers with no apparent issues. Some with heavily modded engines. A lot cheaper alternative than a set of factory wheels.

2nd row seats revisited

I hate to raise this issue again but the presenter in this review states unequivocally that the seating position in the V167 is lower than the W166. She states that she is 5'4" and although space is not an issue I am officially concerned by the seating position and angle. The 2nd row headrests are visibly lower than those in the front seat. Clearly anyone in the backseat at a minimum will be looking up at the front seat occupants.

At 5'4", she's hardly a reliable judge of the view from the second row. I've watched most of the available reviews and don't recall any other reviewer commenting on the view from the second row. Bottom line, if you're not comfortable buying a 2020 GLE sight unseen, wait for them to hit your dealers lots so you can judge for yourself if it's an issue or not.

Sometimes, I know for the W164 at least, there is a fleet of vehicles that make the rounds of different cities for a dealer preview. Let your dealer know you want to be alerted if this happens.

The W166 had a seatback that folded against the front seat so the compromise (that most others have too) is to lower the rear so that the seat back folds down making a tidier package and necessitated by the the 3rd row option. I like it that way and don’t see an issue anyway. Headrests, music and different sized people aren’t conducive to front to back anything. A self driving car may come with facing seats in the future, LOL.😢

Personally, I like the fact that the W166 has a completely flat load floor when the seats are folded down. We carry cargo more frequently than passengers in the rear, but I'm sure this will be fine.

We are usually cargo also and like the convenience of the back folding. It leaves the gap open of the 2nd row foot area that is handy for a lot of things. You can also reach in the back for a lunch cooler, coffee thermos, water, purse etc removing some front seat clutter on a trip. The slight tilted area reduces top clearance but really doesn’t seem to be a hindrance for us. Our last 3 SUV’s have had this config.

I wonder why the LA Auto Show web site doesn't list the 2020 GLE or Maybach GLS? Several sites say both will be there. It lists the BMW X5 and X7.

We now have comments from Thomas at 6'1" and this latest presenter at 5'4" about what seems to be a less than ideal seating position. Worst case scenario we wil have to judge when our order arrives on the dealer lot.

I haven't seen any of the reviewers do this or mention this, but since the 2nd row is adjustable, if they move the second row forward 2 or 3 inches, then it may give the 3rd row sufficient leg/knee room. Most vehicles in this size range with a 3rd row will have a cramped 3rd row.

His concern is with the 2nd row, not the 3rd.

Ahh ok, my bad. the 2nd row does look like the bottom cushion is tilted at a higher than usual angle.

Unfortunately, it appears compromises were made to accommodate the 3rd row, which most will not get. Now we have a less than ideal seating position and load floor that slopes with 2nd row down.

Heard from my dealer pricing on E-ABC will indeed be $10,000 here in Canada. I have been very happy with airmatic on last couple of vehicles and will be sticking with it. I use the custom config and drive with suspension and steering in sport and engine in comfort, perfect for my needs.

I don't blame you, $10K is crazy expensive (let alone $8,100 in the US). I've decided to go with Airmatic on my build as well. I really like Airmatic and while E-ABC would be fun to experience, I fear buyers remorse. Thomas made the point as well that most will be just as pleased with Airmatic. If I trade up to a GLE AMG 53 down the road, I'd probably get E-ABC but by that time I would have tested it in real-world driving and can make an informed decision.

I've got the steel springs currently so I'd appreciate the step up to regular Airmatic. I won't be able to justify E_ABC to the wife, especially not for $10,000 CAD.

Heck, I'll take that deal! CA$10,000 is only US$7,500 right now, vs. the $8,100 we pay!

A few days ago there were only 3 choices. I wanted the Natural Grain Brown Walnut but it wasn’t available. Metal Weave was one choice and would go well if you like the look of Carbon Fiber. I assume that more options may be available soon but you might check with your dealer to see what’s available.

This thread has plugged along remarkably well thanks in large part to Greg. So informative and helpful.

and the thread, to date, had been remarkably devoid of any current gen driver bashing new gen model. mean reversion I guess. was bound to happen

Sorry if I offended anyone. I don’t think SUV’s are attractive vehicles, including my new 2018. I always tell my husband, It’s a good thing everyone has such different tastes in vehicles, otherwise life would be boring

I doubt anyone is offended maybe just in shock to hear someone say they are glad they bought an 18 because the 20 is ugly. They don’t really look that much different but the new Gen improvements are substantial. To name a few-safety, economy, power, tech integration that makes everything easier to use, etc. I can’t think of one area where the 18 is better. You must be a very rare 18 owner that is happy they didn’t wait for the new one.
