I think an overwhelming majority is “fairly” civil, but a limited few, especially in the AMG threads, have different mindset to their precious cars.

GLC43
G'day guys, I am upgrading my GLC 43 to a GLE 450, and pick up the new one next week. A couple of reasons for the upgrade, we love the interior of the GLE and the tyre crabbing or skipping is driving me insane on GLC 43, new front tyres just about every year. We test drove the GLE and did not notice any issues with the tyres skipping or crabbing and they were 22 inch rims.

Just looking for any feedback whether anyone has experienced this with the GLE or is it just a GLC problem.

Thanks guys.

Good morning all, I have a gle450 amg line with prem plus and drive assist etc, every now and then I get a symbol pop up next to where the gear indication is, it is what looks like a pedal with a foot on it and an arrow underneath and it lights up blue. Now I have held off asking what this is because I know iam going to look foolish but I just can't figure it out. it doesn't seem to come on during any particular manoeuvre although I must be missing something.

I’m pretty sure it’s when you are speeding...reads the traffic sign and compares to actual. Doesn’t seem consistent though.

I agree...now I see why I thought it was inconsistent. In our Audi the same signal appears at 10mph over posted speed. Another way I’ve found to increase economy is to accelerate to cruising speed and then to back off the throttle and ease back into it till holding the speed you want. MPG will usually stay 5-10 higher but this only works at lower speeds & on flat ground-maybe up to about 50.
The 450 is capable of getting great economy if needed but it’s A lot more fun to drive in Sport mode.

Just wondering, why would anyone goes with aftermarket CarPlay unit? The 2020 GLE comes standard with Apply CarPlay and Android Auto.

It may not be standard in all markets? DzoniS does not indicate where they are from.

Some thoughts....

The factory Nav will continue to get better over time and has great graphics. It can be useful at times with simple point to point destinations. The Live Traffic feature seems to be fairly accurate in helping avoid construction or wrecks as I keep finding out after ignoring it. Around town it automatically plots the best return route to home automatically.

Mercedes should intro full screen mode for CP & AA that will make those Apps look better. They continue to evolve also.

It’s fairly easy to switch back and forth between Native Nav & phone Nav. On a trip I may use Mercedes Nav and when needed use the voice command to switch to AA. AA has Waze and is more accurate in many ways but requires a direct connection so I may not plug in on a short trip.

It’s a personal decision but after over a year now I like Mercedes Nav more and more. It has a long way to go and will probably never be as good as the phone options....but it’s better than most others except Tesla, IMO.

I prefer it to Tesla too. Tesla basically uses google maps which you can also have on the Mercedes via CarPlay. But the Mercedes one with the AR and HUD integration offers significant benefits, and I haven't found much route deviation if any relative to what Google Maps gives you. Plus the voice integration is better than what you get on any other vehicle, including better than CarPlay.

I've been using the built-in nav recently and found it to be quite good. I used to use Google Maps on my phone because the routes seemed shorter, but then I noticed that the built-in nav was suggesting the same route, it's just that the estimated arrival time was longer. The ETA would then gradually decrease during the trip until it matched Google Maps' time, so at least for me, the nav is fine but the ETA is too conservative at the start of the trip.

There was also one trip where I had both navs running, and Google Maps took me to a restricted road that I couldn't enter, whereas the built-in Nav was fine.

On a separate note, check engine light came on yesterday (only ~400 miles on the car since I got it in October). First issue so far. Cheap bluetooth OBD-2 scanner reports code P1463 but don't know if the scanner is reliable. Also my AC vents don't seem to be working well, not sure if related to the code or not. Dropping it off at service department today.

Until the native navigation is able to display police vehicle locations (i.e. speed traps), I will continue to use WAZE.

I am really liking the Pamanericana grille. I was thinking of ordering an GLE53 grille from my dealer's part dept. and swapping it out.
They said that if I provide them with a GLE53 VIN and my VIN they can tell me if it will fit. Found only one coupe VIN online, gonna try that one out.

Have you found this out yet? Mine is telling me that don’t know until they can look at both cars side by side or actually try to install it.

Hmmm...they sure appear to the the same size and shape. It doesn't seem the front fascia would be different for the 53. I would be skeptical of that.

I thought the same. To be fair, the only GLE53 VIN I was able to get them for that check was a coupe, could be different.
Perhaps I will wait a bit and have a look in a few months. Right now probably it won't even get delivered for a long time.

I agree that it should fit....maybe with some different mounting hardware. It’s highly unlikely that Mercedes would change any of the basic components just for a different grill. If it’s made in China keep an eye on EBay & Amazon- one might show up there before Mercedes parts are available.

Since the grille for non-AMG exterior package is different from the one for AMG exterior package, it is possible that the Panamericana grille is different from the one for AMG exterior package. Maybe Mercedes wants to avoid "diluting" the AMG brand by having tons of pseudo AMGs on the road.
