This from a guy that wanted a GLE 53😀 Lots of people want performance from an SUV and that doesn’t necessarily mean less comfort. There is a big difference between the entry level GLE350 and the AMG versions. Even E-ABC starts to deliver the sporty features of a sports vehicle or the comfort of a luxury SUV. Like MB, the SQ5 has air suspension and driving modes from Comfort to Dynamic. An SUV will never be a sports car-too heavy and a high center of gravity. In 2018 the SQ5 had the most advanced tech of any vehicle except for Tesla, IMO. Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it!

That may be optimistic since a current order for a GLE could be close to 6 months out. If I were betting on a date it would be 10-12 months out. The Coupe is next in line according to the lone article I could find.

I would consider a GLE 53 if has the same I6 engine, comfortable seats, and doesn't sound like a race care. I test drove several GLS 63's and could never pull the trigger because the AMG seats were not comfortable and the louder exhaust note. Other buyers who enjoy and want those in there cars can buy whatever they want, it's there money. It just seems impractical to me for a SUV. I think MB offer's AMG 43/53 variants for buyers like me that want the great look of an AMG without a hand-built V8 engine and louder exhaust. The AMG purist don't seem to care for the 43/53 variants, viewing them as AMG look-a-likes only. And they may be right about that but MB is in the business of selling us cars we want to buy. Thus the available AMG Exterior Line package for the GLE 450. Perfect for buyers like me.

While we are waiting for news, here’s a look at a wild concept from Lexus from the LA Auto Show.. They are hitting R&D pretty heavy the next 5 years.

So be it...if we cant get the 22's, nor massaging seats when ordering AMG line I guess we will have to wait. It will also give MB some time to get the bugs out of the new platform etc

I could be wrong but I didn't thing the AMG's came with MsgSeats in the past. As I recall they are a little more heavily bolstered. But waiting makes good sense, something I may be lacking.

Its not unusual during ramp up to keep it simple and add options as things get going. Mercedes has s total redesign so to keep quality control this may be their way.

Change of plans
My wife and I were talking last night about the GLE and other competitors we drove during this search. She said something in regards to another less expensive SUV which was that I may be happy with it for a year or so but cautioned that I would end up unhappy with it in the long term. In my heart I knew I was never truly convinced that I would be happy driving an SUV every day coming out of my Audi S4 6MT. The statement resonated in me and I kept hearing it in my head until I came clean about the situation.
I did the only logical thing I could do which was take delivery of a new Audi S6 today.
I want to extend thanks to everyone for their insight and help on the new GLE. I'm sure I'll continue to check-inperiodically, as I'm sure it will be a beautiful vehicle. Perhaps the new GLE will be a good candidate to replace my wife's MDX when it's time.

I’ve been researching options for a year. What I now believe is that there is no affordable brake/rotor performance replacement. Looking at brakes any rated with higher stopping power have a higher dust rating. Porsche has a high dollar Ceramic accessory add that’s in the $10-12M range that supposedly gets the stopping power with lower brake dust. I was hoping that that GLE 53 would come with regenerative brakes like those rumored for the SQ8. That would get rid of the dust. Brake dust must be a consumer complaint because it was a line item on my survey from Audi asking about issues.

Does your Q7 have Grey wheels? My SQ5 has a terrible amount of dust but I didn’t notice much on the factory wheels. On Crome or Machined with clear coat it’s a weekly cleaning job. I go by a self wash with a wand sprayer, apply some cleaner and $2 later get most of it but still have to wipe each spoke. I have the Grey factory wheels on with my winter tires and can see the dust is there if I stare at it but it’s subdued.

No, the optional 21 silver wheels and almost 0 dust and 0 performance issues...the Q7/8's use ceramic pads. My 911's and turbos w/o ceramic system were good too. No issue with past Ferraris either. MB and BMW seem to be the worst ever. Hoping MB changed the pad material to a ceramic/ceramic mix for the new MB models.
I hate brake dust and agree with you....Mercedes give us low dust brakes! There must be a way besides the high dollar Porsche ones. My truck has 100M mile brakes and rotors- my Audi 30M. Unfortunately, Mercedes designed & sourced brakes long ago so all we can do is hope.

Just a quick follow up. Here’s a short note about the new 2019 Porsche Cayenne brakes;
The Cayenne also debuts new Porsche Surface Coated Brakes as an option. These consist of a cast-iron disc with a tungsten-carbide coating that increases friction at the same time it reduces wear and brake dust. Price $3490
Option 2 is Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) $9,080

I was on the fence about E-ABC because of the $6,490 up charge compared to AIRMATIC ($1,610) but after seeing the price of ceramic brakes for the Porsche Cayenne, I thought why not try to add E-ABC to my build. My dealer called Distribution who said they'll call Germany on my behalf. It may be to late to change my build but no harm in trying.
