Check out the new X5 forum, lots of issues, I had a discovery sport when they first came out loads of issues, I presently have a GLC 43 bought just after they came out, apart from the crabbing issue have had no problems and over 2 years on very few issues on the forum, hopefully GLE will be the same.

Even though I love my 2013 ML Bluetec, I've been thinking about replacing it with something new. Went and tried the Land Rover Discovery diesel. Wife didn't like the interior, and I have serious reservations about LR's reliability. Really impressed with the new redesign of the GLE and emotionally ready to order. When I started to think about it I remembered my personal rule about buying first year redesigns. Glad I waited for the second year on my C300 as the first year had some serious issues.
Looks like I will be waiting a year for this purchase.

2017 GLE350 4MATIC
I have had a 2017 GLE350 for about 10k miles and enjoy it so far. The W166 platform (steering, suspension and body), M276 3.5V6 engine and 7G-Tronic transmission are all established and solid.
Next gen GLE uses a 9G-Tronic so there should be less risk there. New body/chassis/MBUX may have teething pains which is normal for all carmakers. New inline 6 engine could be trouble. Or not.
I have worked in the auto industry and have done many product introductions. Even the best of the best stub their toes. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy the car, just expect that there may be teething pains in the early years. As an example of new product (service) introductions, read up on customer feedback of the mbrace app.
