I've owned more than a dozen Mercedes and have a GLE450 that I ordered back in May that just finished production. Great vehicles, generally solid manufacturer. Everyone has issues, Mercedes stands behind them. Certainly somewhat dependent on the dealer, of course. No hesitation here, and dealers tell me they have been generally solid (remember, most people post complaints in forums, not many "my car is working correctly" posts).

Waiting is extremely frustrating, but the wait is worth it. Love my 450

There is also a lot of GLEs (about 9,000) parked on the aerodrome of Ahlhorn (Germany) because of quality issues of these vehicles:

My SA texted me to say production on my reorder remains on schedule for second decade of October. Hoping that holds up. Still no change on the first order. What a joke.

And just like that, pushed back 4 weeks. End of September now. I guess I won't get to drive this car in the summer.

It’s really insane. At best, I’ll take delivery 8 months after placing my first order. And I’m honestly not optimistic about even that. If my wife would let me jump ship to a BMW, I’d probably do it. She hates BMWs, though.

Time for a new wife! But seriously feels like I put money in a kickstarter product. I would jump ship right away if it wasn't for the MBDEAL discount I have.

A great choice, since you waited so long, why not move up! A lot of us will envy your ride.

If the jump would be to an X5 you are better ofF waiting, at least when you get the car there is a possibility of it having no faults, less chance with an X5.

This morning I received a further update from my dealer and my GLE450 has now been built but not yet released for transport to UK. It is expected in Zeebrugge 2/10 and at UK dealer a week later although still subject to change. A least I now have a VIN and something tangible to look forward to. Heres hoping.

Fingers crossed Paul, you won't be disappointed when you get the car.

unexpected comment for a Mercedes

A couple days ago I asked whether I made a mistake putting money down on a GLE450. When I see comments such as "fingers crossed" and "I hope you won't be disappointed" I seriously wonder if I made the right decision. This is a Mercedes right? I could understand if it were a budget vehicle from a third world country. Please do not take offense it just surprises me that this is Mercedes that is being discussed in such a fashion. A few years ago I ordered a Cayenne and it was a fantastic experience. My "sportier" days are over and thought the GLE would be a good middle ground for me. I am just a little concerned that for this price point it would possibly be a frustrating experience. Again, no offense to any poster, just my observation.

That comment was a little odd. Of course, everyone has different likes, needs and hot buttons, so it is always perilous to speculate. However, I've had every iteration of the ML/GLE and this is the best so far. The way you spec it can make a big difference, IMO, between being just good and great. It is not as sporty as a Cayenne, but for the money will give you much more comfort, utility and luxury. It lives up to the Mercedes-Benz name.

This is my first Mercedes and I probably have more issues than anyone but mine was also an early build. I have had it for over 4 months now and love it. It is a great car in every way and my issues seem to be software conflicts vs mechanical. It is a sophisticated vehicle with well thought out features. I have resigned myself to the possibility that it may take months to have a solid system since MBUX has different developers of various pieces. I have had 2 Over the Air map updates and 1 System update already. I like that feature since it creates a living system without the inconvenience of going to the dealer. I follow other Forums and BMW and Audi also have issues. The more complex these vehicles become the more possibility of problems. My 2018 SQ5 has been flawless but the new Q 8 not so much. If you want to play it safe wait 6 months but I would buy a Mercedes again.

I agree with Ron S. This is my 4th Mercedes and by far my favorite car. In the past I've had a few SAAB's, Volvo S60R, Infinity, Lexus, Porsche Macan and Boxster, Jag XJ. I also have one of the early ones and took delivery in April. Just turned 10,000 miles and have been fortunate to have had absolutely no issues. Yes, 10K miles is a lot to date but we have a summer home 180 miles away that we visit almost every weekend.

No, you're right. Mercedes isn't what t used to be. I did a lot of the wrench turning on a 1972 Benz I brought back to life, and the build and materials quality from the decades old Benz was mind-blowing for me. I bought a C250 for the lady and was mind-blown by how each dealership tried to run a different scam on a very basic warranty issue (alignment). I can't go through that ordeal again, it defeats the purpose of paying more for luxury. Aftermarket service matters, and I wouldn't want to gamble on a car that's been baking in the Alabama summer sun all these months. Are you kidding me? I got a Japanese car also in my garage, bought new 9 years ago, always garaged except for occasional sun when driven and parked out of town. The clear coat and rubbers (inside and outside the engine bay) are still pretty damn good condition. Compare that to all the others of the same year, same model, and you can see the value of not letting the nearest star radiate the hell out of a vehicle.

Edit: coming back to this thread has eliminated the MB from my new vehicle purchase plan.

Pics from the Birmingham holding area. Location is an old mall so the back side is full too. Plus on the back side there is an elevated area of parking to used for employee parking back in the day can kind of see in one pic. There is an old Sears Auto out parcel next to it and they have workers their working on them. We were being a carrier bringing more GLEs to store. There are a few GLS and GLE Coupes stores there too. I have more pics but these should suffice.

My ten year old 911 has seen less sun than these brand new SUVs have. Yikes. That’s a sad sight to see.

Who ever is in charge of lunching this GLE program needs to be fired. I don’t know about your work place, if I put customer aircraft engines in a storage for months saying I am waiting for some parts and don’t worry it’s coming soon. I think my boss will choke me out and kick me out the door.

Sad to see those vehicles sitting there like that. If I ever actually get mine (and don't jump ship) I will never forget this failure of communication and how this is still not handled.
There is literally nothing MB can do at this point to excuse the complete lack of updates, nonexistent corporate response, and lackluster treatment of their Customers.

They were estimating just under a Billion Dollar loss several months ago and the way things are going it could be more. In most companies there would be a major shake up at all levels of management starting at the top. This has to be one of the biggest FU’s ever in Auto history. And here we are in the front row, so to speak

For a company that can dedicate 1200 engineers to Formula One it boggles my mind that they can't get this figured out.
