Well lovely. We were all set to take delivery of our 450 today when the dealer called to say that the pre-delivery inspection turned up a defective headlight module. They are ordering a headlight and some module that is supposedly VIN specific. The headlight they can get from Alabama, but the module has to come from Germany.
Anyone heard of this before?
I've had vehicles with defects discovered during PDI, yes. Made me thankful the dealer actually did the PDI properly.
Yes they found some new information on their computer which did not show as a code. This was only possible because I left it in limp mode and drove direct to the dealer - never shut it off and the dealer took it immediately into the shop. It could help you if you were able to do the same while "limp mode " was happening. My specific info. would not help you as mine was a diesel.
Key Fobs and Memory Settings and Profile On Screen Dont Talk to each other....
Im not real happy with my brand new 2020 GLE 350 4-matic...... for starters the camera that senses rain for the automatic wipers wasnt even installed on the windshield AT ALL.... after a couple car washes and the wipers never came on the dealer took the cover off and BAM!! The camera was dangling... but thats not my biggest beef..... why cant the car tell with the key fob or the weight of the human sitting in the drivers seat or by me clicking my "profile" on the screen who is driving the car? When my wife and I switch off driving the car, we have to re-set EVERYTHING.... I spent $73k for this car..... my neighbors Chrysler responds to his/her keys properly... their settings adjust and bingo... off they drive.... why cant my Benz do this?

So true. Also, have you noticed that the lowest radio/streaming volume setting is not really that low. You can clearly hear the song etc.. One bar (which is like actually 3 bars for some reason on the display) is quite loud. The volume settings make no sense. Going up 4 clicks makes the radio almost uncomfortably loud and it is only about 35% of max. On my other car, the lowest setting is almost imperceptible as it should be and a comfortable level is a little past halfway.
My wife locked her week old GLE via the app last night and when I arrived home an hour later her dash was completely illuminated! Doors locked, alarm blinking, dash gauges and menu screens all on. Pulling door handle turned it off. Relocked car from app, dash stayed lit for 30 minutes until I unlocked with key fob.
this has just happened to me. park is stuck. brake lights stuck. same error messages on dash and the car wont turn over.
will try disconnecting the battery and go from there
Happened to me Wednesday morning. My car has been at the dealership since and I haven’t really heard much except we are still working, have a nice weekend. Did everybody else eventually get this problem resolved or is this an ongoing issue? My car is 11 months old with 12,000 miles and this is the first issue Ive had.

I noticed something similar. I locked the car in my garage with the app one time, and noticed with the security camera after a few hours later that the lights were still on, but it was locked and mirrors folded.
So I used the FOB to lock it, and after a minute all seemed well.
"ticking" noise from driver door (or b-pillar) when going through bumps. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, its annoying. This is different than rattle noise, its more like "tick" "tick" noise.
Rain sensing wiper sometimes goes to full speed for no reason
Wiper "skip" when is annoying even on a clean windshield (see the same video above, near the end, you can hear the noise).
Also, this only happen one time, but I was driving, and all a sudden, the car give the 3 beep warning indicating collision warning, and the seat belt pull super tight. The car didn't brake or anything, just the beeps and seat belt tightening (you can hear the seat belt noise at the same time as the beep). After a second or two, it release itself
Most of the item above is minor. It is annoying, but not a major issue. The only thing I have concern is the last item. Not sure why it kicks in in the first place, but the other side is, if it thinks a collision is going to happen, why did the emergency braking not kick in?
Do you have the QX60 hybrid? I know the regular model has a V6. I'd imagine your hybrid turns on and off more smoothly. Just based on my test drive I'd get a GLE450 overall.
So I purchased the GLE 350. The start stop feature is nearly identical to the start stop in my QX60 Hybrid in regards to NVH. Probably has more to do with the fact they are both 4-bangers. That said, the start stop function is smooth on my GLE 350, you just have to wait 1 sec before mashing the accelerator after taking your foot off the brake -- same in my QX60.
GregW already answered your question, but I just wanted chime in to say that I moved up from a QX60 and, good god, is the GLE a massive step up in comfort, luxury and performance. I didn't hate the QX60, but it always felt very functional, without any fun to it. And wasn't particularly comfortable. the GLE has it beat in every way.
Agree 100% I have the Bose 15 speaker Centerpoint system in my Infiniti, and the Burmeister in my GLE is superior...and the multicontour front seats with massage are heavenly!
Lots of owners with no issues - me included - if you want to know what carnage on a new model looks like check out the BMW X5 forum.
Give it some time. Understandably, there will be issues but having your vehicle completely block in the middle of the road or anywhere else for that matter. It’s unacceptable for this MB brand and money. So much for quality control.
Lexus had issues, initially, but handled their customers like no other. Why ? Because customers will never forget of how your pricey brand made them feel. So Lexus put on the kitten gloves. It worked. The RX350 outsold the ML350 4:1.
So Many folks on this forum say “ never buy when new models come out, wait a few, let them iron out the wrinkles.

Adding to the list. Brand new 2020 GLE53. Noise from the suspension, both front and back. Noise from the trunk. Noise for the A or B pillar, can't really identify. It is a "tack" sounding noise, doesn't always happen.
The car is now at the dealer for the suspension noise. On top of that, on the way to the dealer a faulty suspension message appeared on the cluster.
I'm less than impressed with this car. Looks like it is still a beta version...
PS the lane assistant is also a beta version. IMHO.
I recall reading this somewhere but has anyone else had issues with the leather seats and stitching showing ripples and overall uneven look to it? The side bolsters look lumpy and finish overall looks pretty subpar for a brand of this supposed caliber. This has been my only real gripe for the GLE thus far.
edit to add pictures.
these ripples were here from day one. It seems to be something to do with how the leather was laid when it was stitched on rather than normal stretching you see with use. Even at the seams in the last picture, the leather is starting to tear a little. Has anyone else experienced this?
Too many people think that “jumping ship” to another brand is the answer. The fact is that they all outsource most components and they all have issues. Lexus may have fewer problems but they are always late to the party and in no way do they have a comparable product to the GLE. They had redesign issues with the RX and only recently added Car Play and Android Auto-years behind most others. Performance, handling, luxury options, etc. are all lacking. If you want a ho hum vehicle go for the RX.
Tesla has raised the bar for Tech and innovation and IMO the rest are pushing product out too fast to try to compete. To compete with Tesla Tech in a way, but also to “one up” their more direct competitors. All three German brands had new product like the GLE and all three are having issues and losing lots of money as well as alienating customers. Daimler stock was in the low $20’s 2 years ago and is now about to go below $10, US ADR’s.
The issues MB, BMW and VW have had and are having are not component or supplier issues. They are system design and execution issues including the manufacturing execution piece. 100% the responsibility of the carmakers. I have been in vehicle-related businesses for a long time and see these movies on a regular basis from all sides of the table.
The easiest thing for a carmaker to do is blame it on suppliers. The hardest thing for carmakers to do is to take ownership for the problem(s) and treat the customer in a way that the problems are forgotten or forgiven.

I agree to the point that they are responsible but it's been way more that design, execution and software issues. This all started with a botched launch with parts shortsges, poor quality, along with others of their own making including building incomplete vehicles and stockpiling them. My vehicle has had several faulty components replaced (that I know about) and I'm waiting for another one the Key Fob.
The botched Launch has likely diverted lots of resource to fixing rather than being proactive going forward. I'm new to Benz so not a fan boy. I always buy the latest Gen rather than go with a safer bet so have lots of experience with issues. This is the worst I know of except for JLR's where it's business as usual.

Yikes! That’s pretty bad! What does the dealer say?
I have the exact seats, here's what mine look like. I'd say yours are deflective, show them to the dealer and make them replace both seat covers under the 4yr/50k bumper to bumper warranty.
GLE450 with third row seats…problem with powered 2nd row driver’s side section. Passenger side works as it should. Driver’s side moves forward but no longer lifts to allow access to third row and it no longer reclines. The seat back can be manually lowered flat but that does not help with access. Dealer tried to reset the system with no success on Thursday. They ordered a new motor that arrived on Friday around noon. They did not have enough time to replace it on Friday so we left the vehicle there over the weekend for an early Monday start. They were overloaded with walk-ins Monday morning and didn’t start to replace the seat motor till mid-afternoon. After my attempts to follow up several times finally at 5:15 I was told that the new motor did not fix the problem and that the techs were all gone. They were going to try finding another 3rd row vehicle and do some matching diagnostics. Not sure if they were going to reach out to MB for any insight.
Although I have a loaner, I am not a happy camper having left my 1500-mile 3month old vehicle there for five days and not having any idea of when or how it can be fixed. Has anyone with the 3rd row option had a similar powered seat problem???
Ps this is the first glitch that I have had with an otherwise super vehicle
