2020 GLE450 Tire Pressure

Here are the 3 stickers that appear on my vehicle. Based on this what would be the best air pressure? Never any heavy load....thanks.

31 for the front and between 31-39 in the rear depending on what you’re comfortable with.

Tire pressure confusion

My previous post on this in the "Random Thoughts" thread I said this:

"Tire pressure listing inside driver’s door is size specific for 21s – 34F/39R. Notation inside fuel flap (non-specific) is 31F/31R normal; 31F/39R loaded. I think I will go 34/34 for normal use. Not sure why Mercedes does this (was same on my ’12); it’s confusing."

It is very confusing for the owner. I think 31 is a little low, but if you're after comfort it is safe. I would go 33F/33R for unloaded use (or at least 32/32), raising the rear for 4 passengers + luggage or towing. My '12 ML with 20s was posted similarly with 32 psi minimum. Raising the front tire pressure decreases potential understeer, but in the non-AMG models I don't think that is a factor, but it will sharpen steering slightly.

Where is that middle sticker located?

Thanks for replying. The Middle Sticker is inside the door right under the Black Sticker and the 3rd on Gas Cap Door. It came with 35/35 so I"ve left it at that for now.

Rear tires are low profile tires, I would suggest to get as close as possible to the 39 PSI.

The AMG 20”s seem to come with 36 front and rear according to other posts and mine at delivery.

Actually fronts and rears have about the same sidewall height because of the different widths. If you calculate the sidewall, Front = .45 x 275 = ~124 mm; Rear = .40 x 315 = 126 mm. 39 psi unloaded will give a pretty stiff ride and is not necessary.

They are? Both my front and back look to have the same profile. Obviously the back are wider but both look the same on the ground.

That's going to be a stiff ride! Did you take that reading with the car on? I found the app will not read correctly (high) with the ignition off.

I just realized the title says 2020 GLE450. Mine is a 2020 GLE350. Does that make a difference?

It sounds like I’ll be letting some air out of my tires. Thanks for the help.

You guys were absolutely right. It does make a huge difference from what it was. Which drove a lot different than my CLS which is why I didn’t question it when it came that way.

I would have thought that it would as the 450 is heavier?

Curb weight & tire pressure

Mercedes has not published curb weights, but Car & Driver listed their test 450 with Airmatic & 20s at 5,151 lb. The 350 has a lighter engine with no 48 volt system, but is the same in other respects, so maybe 200 lb. lighter? That would be like 4%, which is not enough to affect tire pressure. The load carried has more of an effect. Now suspension tuning, especially in the front, may be different between the two.

Yes, the one on the door jamb is for maximum loading. Seems like they could figure out how to make it less confusing!

My TPMS was set, I assume by the factory or delivering dealer, to 31 front / 39 back. Easy enough to change but agree it should be less confusing and more exacting. Tire pressures are important for tire wear, safety and performance

All those labels are specified by the Feds. Format, information, and placement. Talk to your Elected Official, who might lean on the Bureaucrats, who make the real rules.
The fuel filler door is the manufacturer's recommendation for inflation pressures.

I think they allow sun visors on SUV's now, that don't have rollover warnings.

Soon, we'll have World Class headlights, if those Bureaucrats can figure out how to read the Law. They have two years to write the Rules, then hold hearings, then re-write, then two more rounds of hearings and objections, then a final Rule. We'll see (headlight pun).

On our 2022 GLE 450 we have been running 34-35 all around on the 21s. No complaints and we live in a hilly curvy area where they get worked a little. I've not chalked them yet but need to. Performance/comfort-wise no complaints at that pressure.

I run 35 all around on our 2022 GLE 450 21" Michelin. Our ride is excellent.
