I keep my key in my front left pocket. Without thinking much I shake the key through my pocket before using it. I'm sure if anyone was watching me they would think I was making a different type of adjustment

My new Fobs arrived and have been programmed for my GLE. They look identical to the original and first replacement sets except that the trim is a bright chrome. So far they have been flawless but I’ll have a better report after a few more days. I had hoped to post some more info like the work order and part numbers. Mercedes USA Corporate is shut down until May 18 so the Dealer couldn’t process the paperwork yet.😂
The plant has opened but not all of the Corporate support staff are on duty. I’ll post the Work Order with details as soon as I get it.

Nice!
I hope this one delivers.
Please post a photo of the inside with the version #.
I could not get either cover off until I got home and rolled a piece of tape to attach for traction. Here’s the key info:
It would be helpful if someone could post an older one for comparison like I forgot to do....

Checkout post #56.
From what I can see, it does not seem to be a new model, but I don't really know.
However, it may be a different batch that will function as originally intended, and will hopefully make you happy
The exterior chrome piece is different and there are some subtle differences but I’m not sure what most of the upper numbers mean other than what looks to be a serial number. My Dealer Shop Foreman was told by his contact months ago that this one was in production and notified him when it was available to order....so I’m optimistic but will know in a few days. These are #5&6.
I gave the new Fob a good shakedown today and it worked flawlessly. Interesting side effects are that the mirrors no longer fold locking...at least for now. Also yesterday when I closed the hatch it locked the car even thought it was unlocked & I pressed the left button that doesn’t lock. Today it’s not locking the car...just how it’s supposed to work. I did have to reset my driver profile so that may have been a factor.
After 4 days I’m ready to feel confident that the new Fobs have solved my locking/premature sleep issues. Hopefully by month end I will have the documentation of the Service to share with others.
This pretty much resolves all of my issues of any consequence. I assume that Android Auto/Car Play will be updated for Full Screen in FUP3 if that ever happens. In the interim I use the Native Nav on trips and AA around town. There are too many miscues with Mercedes Nav for it to be useful in the city. The latest one was Nav to a business that took me within 100 yards but to the wrong street 1 block away in a residential area vs the actual shopping center location.
As I promised here’s the info on the new key along with part number. I have not had a Key Fob failure of any kind since they were changed to the new ones.
Looks like my other original key is also defective (I think its the original one because it has a lower serial number)...
I tested both keys again using the following method:
Using the key to lock, then unlock the car. Open the door to prevent automatic locking, and close it.
Leave the key somewhere that won't move for about 5 minutes.
Carefully pickup the key and move it to the door handle.
Try locking it with the sensor.
The one with the lower serial number doesn't lock the door until I shake the key, while the one with the larger serial number does (I make sure the other key is out of range when testing).
Looks like another trip to the dealership.
Another interesting finding:
I used to think that the handfree tailgate works randomly (I have the towing package). But what I found is that, it almost always (or always) works if the key is awake. I tested it with the old key, and it seems to work randomly until I shake the key, then it always works. I tested it with the new key and it works all the time (a few times so far).
So for those that think their handfree tailgate doesn't work, it could be your key, not the kick sensor or the hitch.

After kicking and streaming for over a year my dealership confirmed today there are new key fobs and ordered me two of them. It's been the most frustrating thing about owning the GLE450 to date.
I picked this key up yesterday, July 15, 2020. They were ordered by the dealer and took a week to come in. Don't seem to be working any different then original keys.
You have the same model number as mine.
When you get a chance, can you test both keys with the following method?
Using the key to lock, then unlock the car (this ensure that the key is awake). Open the door to prevent automatic locking, and close it. Leave the key somewhere that won't move for about 5 minutes. (make sure the second key is out of range) Carefully pickup the key and move it to the door handle (without shaking it, or if you have a chair, put it next to the door and put the key on the chair, so that you don't need to pick it up). Try locking it with the sensor.
This test should let you know if you have the same issue as mine, which is that the key goes to sleep mode way too early (5 minutes)
If both of your key works, you might have a different issue.
I will try this. When did you get your keys? What is the normal time for falling asleep?
I got one of my key replaced last week, and the other one this week.
I don't know the normal time, since Mercedes doesn't specify it in the manual. But it's definitely longer than 5 minutes (the issue I had with the old key). Maybe someone else has more information on it.
I would have thought 5 minutes was acceptable for the key to go to sleep, it goes to sleep to prevent theft and it wouldn't matter if it went to sleep after 30 seconds if it woke up when you move it - the issue is it doesn't. I am at dealers tomorrow and will mention it again but in UK nothing seems to be happening.
I think the problem is you can't have the motion sensor too sensitive. Otherwise the key will wake up constantly by the lightest touch. Also, more frequent sleep/wake cycle will most likely drain the key battery faster.
I don't know the exact time before the key goes to sleep mode, but you can manually trigger it by pressing the lock button twice in quick succession.
