I think I would have gone with 255/55-19; their 30" diameter is closer to the rest of the GLE's tire options (more pothole cushioning). Heck you could even go 60-series. For some reason the stock 19" size is puny compare do the others.

I think Dave’s stock tires were 255/50’s and switching them would probably require some sort of software update not sure how this wouldn’t mess everything up if there wasn’t. Maybe something to do with steel springs vs. air? Even tire rack shows this size available to all models so they are probably unaware also?

It would be interesting to know if the speedometers are calibrated to the tire size as delivered. If so, it should be programmable. The difference in revs/mile between 255/50 & 55-19 is only 3.3% (716 vs. 693).
Winters were fitted yesterday - wheel package from the dealer w/ 275/50/R20 Pirelli Scorpion.
Ride is slightly more comfortable than the 275/315 21's that they replaced but handling is mushy (of course) - won't matter in the next few days - first snow expected next week.
Might look into some sort of spacer for the rear wheels next time - they look lost back there.

I remember when I shopped around for wheels for our Volvo one of the oem accessory options required software change.

May have been something to look at as our potholes are more like craters. I-800-POT-HOLE is a speed dial on my phone to the NYS DOT. The good news is they respond quickly.
Got my Michelin Pilot Alpin P5’s installed today. I was able to use the lug bolts from Otis mentioned previously by Henry. I bought the longer ones, 33mm.
But I continue to have a brain cramp with offsets and miscalculated the positioning that 8 1/2” wheels with et45 would have on the front tire location. There was no noticeable difference in the upper tread and tire bulge location from stock 9” wheels with tires the same size as stock. These are very large tires and sucking in the bead does not make them narrower. If there is any difference it is very negligible.
Now on offsets....less offset moves the outside Wheel edge out-not in. The offset is from center and I know better but continue to get it wrong until thinking about it. This came up early in the thread and is the reason I didn’t buy Titanium extended length bolts and spacers. Promptly forgot!
So I’m glad I went with et45 instead of using my et32’s. I measured from the widest point of tire bulge before and after using a level along the wheel trim. This is not exact but close enough for my purposes. My new tire at the widest bulge moved out beyond the trim more than 1/4” - they were just about 1/16 inside with factory tires and wheels. The tread is still inside the fender.
The net change shouldn’t cause any rubbing but will slightly increase mud and debris on the body. I found some mud flaps for the 167 GLE with AMG, shipping from China 3 weeks out. I’ll post pics and fitment when they arrive. They are small and won’t offer much protection (if they fit).
Anyone considering spacers might want to double check their wheel offset and calculations.

I forgot to mention the Tire Rack TPMS sensors work perfectly. I don’t know if they were reset by Costco or if they reset by themselves. They show pressure and temps like OEM. I like the temp feature. It will give me a chance to see how if the Nitrogen reduces temps over those with air. There were some wide swings with factory tires, running over 100 degrees in 50-60 degree ambient.

Stock offset for 8 1/2s is et42 in the rear, so his et45s should be just about spot on with the wider tires. I'm using my W166 20x9s that are et57, which is exact spec for the 9" fronts and with 12mm spacers will be within 1mm in the rear.

Watching a Football game and accidentally erased the part “except for the 1/4” from narrower wheels”. The 8 1/2” rear wheel is inboard 1/4” from the 9” but the 1mm diff in offset didn’t make enough dif. to measure.
This helped reduce the front wheel offset that was 13mm or a little over 1/2” to just over 1/4” outboard from stock. Sorry for the omission.
What did everyone end up suing for tmps sensors. I bought the hard ones from dealer but when I was by earlier they all switched to the rubber stems? Hope the ones I bought work should be same freq?

I got the 433Mhz ones from The Tire Rack ($40 each) - they are a hard stem.

I’m in no hurry to try them in snow and ice but that’s coming soon.

I’ve got the tools but it still takes time and isn’t that much fun in winter. Add the wheels to the job of cleaning all the ridges on the lower AMG body trim and at least bi-weekly cleaning..... I’ve never had a car that threw so much crap on the sides and fenders. Mud flaps are my next project.
