Purchasing Extended Warranty AFTER Buying Vehicle
Hi all, I'm filling out paperwork for my GLE 450 and in the offer for the extended warranty and prepaid maintenance packages, it reads that the products "are offered as part of the vehicle sale transaction, and may not be available after the fact, in retrospect or as standalone products."
I know several people here have talked about buying the ELW from Taufel Motors, separate from the purchase of the vehicle. Did you all have similar language in the paperwork you signed to buy the vehicle? Will I be able to buy the maintenance, wheel/tire protection or ELW separately? Thanks in advance.

We won’t take delivery for probably at least a week, so I may be able to do it before delivery.

The MSRP for Extended Limited Warranty goes up by 15% after 30 days from purchase date (dealer cost goes up by 6%) - you can purcahse from any dealer you want AFTER your purchase has been recorded with Mercedes (the term is DDR) - Taufel is a good bet...

I was just going through the Extended Warranty documentation and noticed the following exclusion under 6: WHAT IS NOT COVERED:
6.14. ELECTRIC-DRIVE VEHICLES: Maintenance, service, and replacements of/to the Vehicle’s lithium ion battery or electric powertrain, or any components thereof, are not covered by this Agreement.
This essentially excludes the entire EQ Boost system, which is like a quarter of the vehicle's drivetrain. Not too happy about this.
6.14. ELECTRIC-DRIVE VEHICLES: Maintenance, service, and replacements of/to the Vehicle’s lithium ion battery or electric powertrain, or any components thereof, are not covered by this Agreement.
This essentially excludes the entire EQ Boost system, which is like a quarter of the vehicle's drivetrain. Not too happy about this.

However, the protection they are offering runs $1,895 for five years and does NOT include wheel replacement, only cosmetic repair. It appears they use a third-party provider. Is this common at MB? I assumed the wheel/tire protection was provided by MBUSA itself.
I may end up buying from Asheville after all.

Some MB dealers offer non-MB Wheel & Tire, some have non-MB "packages" with Key-Replacement/Ding-Removal/Wheel-Scrape repair.
You can quote MB coverage's with Taufel... sometime waiting too long results in over-thinking it when it comes down to actually buying-the-dang-thing.
