GLE 350 de - finally here

Later this week I am finally getting my GLE plug in. It has been nearly 3 months in transport from the US, some of the delay has been due to Covid. The useless app called MY CAR pinged me sunday afternoon and told that the car had been delivered to my dealer. I raced there to see it and it was obvious that the car had been outside for a while so to speak.... dirty and with some bird droppings to the roof. The bird aimed and hit the roof to the small piece of body behind the pano-roof of course..... My experience with bird droppings is that they do permanent damage to the paint, I told the SA so I have to examen this on delivery day later this week. The Volvo dealer in the neighbourhood had som new cars standing on the lot, and they got it, the cars were almost completely covered with plastics. Why can't Mercedes also do this, its a cheap insurance.

Anyway, I am looking forward to getting it on my hands! They are laying som ceramic coating on it so I have to wait a few days.

I was also pleased to se that the steeringwheel controls were in a black trim and not silver as this:

There are many cars on the marked here, also with the night package, but the all have this silver trim. Anyone who knows why mine got black?

The Night Package has the following black elements: Wheel accents, front splitter, grille trim, rear diffuser, side mirrors, window trim and roof rails.

The silver trim for steering wheel controls is related to AMG interior options, I believe.

Hello,
The only reason referring to the french configurator is that you have taken the heated steering wheel which change AMG steering wheel to regular one with wood & leather.
So you loose also the plane part on the bottom.

I like both the heated part and the black trim so its a win win!

A couple of pictures of my car the first one in midnight sun. I am very pleased by the the car in most ways, but I am considering to contact the dealer to have them look into rough downshifts from 5 to 4-3. But its not a constant thing it happens just some days and some situations. I am reading about the same problem for some of you other guys have, and I recon that I have the same gearbox (with some add-ons like the electric motor) as the pure petrol and diesel versions.

I have not been on many long trips, except for a 250 km run. It portions out the el when you use the sat nav, in the most efficient way. I guess it predicts when its best to use el en when its best to use the Diesel engine. Her are the stats since new:

I think that the combo el and diesel works very nice when you go on long trips. The diesel stops and starts without you noticing it at all, and its enough power all together with 320 hp and 700 nm of torque. It delivers, as seen on the motor graphics on MBUX, the same numbers also when the electricity has run out. When its "empty" I charge approx 26-27 kWh. The battery pack is rated to 31,2 kWh so there is always a buffer witch is used in situations when you put the pedal to the metal. The same buffer is also used for increasing battery life and charging speed, as you don't use 100 % of its capacity. The charging speed is "flat" as it charge with the same amount of power all the way from 0 to 100% . This is the same with both AC and DC power. At home I charge with 4,5 kw and the high speed charging at 60 kw on power stations along the road.

Thanks for this interesting feedback. You said that you didn't notice that much when the diesel engine turns on, doesn't it make too much noise ?
It's good to know that the charging is flat because most of the time when you reach 80% the charging decrease and it takes a longer time to reach the 100%.
What did MB said regarding the running in (breaking in), did the y asked you to use only the diesel engine for the first 1000km ?

When you cruise at high speed its the wind and tire noise that you hear, at low speeds you hear some 4 cylinder noise but its more quite than my old ML250 blutec. As I said earlier the diesel is not on when you set off nor when you stop, even with 0 % SOC. i didnt hear anything about breaking in period, when I get sparetime I will grind trough the 600 pages manual😀

I was playing with the configurator one day, and found that my 21´ AMG lowers the WLTP range with 10 % down from 89 km to 80 km (compared to the standard 20` AMG rim) Same for the dieselconsumption from 7,1 l/100 km to 8,0 l/100 km. I have seen the same for pure EVs, 10 % increase in consumption per inch up.

I can’t play with the configurator since 2 weeks it’s down here in France
But there is no details regarding the petrol/diesel consumption in WLTP cycle on the French one.
Normally your dealer should have told you some recommandations regarding the breaking in period.

Testing high speed charging on a roadtrip in Norway. Approx 30 min from 0 to 100% SOC.

What is the longest trip that you have done so far ?
What is the range when you don’t have anymore battery ?
What about consumption with battery at zero ?

The range on only diesel is about 900 km with at consumption on 6,5 - 7 l pr 100 km. This is in Norway with a average speed on 70-75 km/h.

High speed charging to day also, just for fun because the price is pretty steep when yoy fastcharge and its cheeper to run on diesel. The charging you do at home is by far the most cost efficient.

After a 5000 km trip through Norway we returned home. The de was quite a nice ride and powerfull enough to manage my 2000 kg boattrailer The 440 nm torque on just the electric motor contribute on the total performace.

A rainy sunday makes room for prepairing for winter (!) I have now cleaned and coated my winter rims. The new Nokian Hakkapelliita 9 studed tires are ready for rough winter roads!

Yes here above the artic circle we need real top notch winter tires and use them from oktober to april. On my second car, a Bmw i3, I have studless tires. There are some few smartasses that tries to run on only allseason tyres, and have only one set of tires/rims. Its legal but you terrible grip and handling on both winter and summer roads.
