Brabus GLE exhaust tips

I've always loved the exhaust on the GLE53 and was a little surprised when I had a close look at the dealer the other day and realized they are just a cosmetic element on the fascia / diffuser and not a true sport exhaust. I see Brabus has released a similar style, this may be a cool addition to my GLE450... Any idea what this may cost and how difficult the installation would be?

Not sure what you mean by "not a true sport exhaust." The style of the outlet does not make an exhaust "sport," IMO. That being said, I do like those. Hard to say what installation is like, but at worst would involve removing the rear fascia.

Agreed, not the best choice of words, I always thought the tips were part of the sport exhaust, but it stops a few inches behind the rear bumper for some reason...

I wouldn't be surprised if the "reason" is "Pedestrian Safety."
You may think this is absurd, but Pedestrian Safety drives a lot of things, from wipers to mirrors to lug nuts to hood ornaments.
Exhaust tips can get hot unless ventilated.
I know......

This is on my 450 - exhaust stops at the opening at the front of the bumper outlet. I'm assuming the 53 tips just insert into that bumper opening, and the Brabus tips are the same, just a different style.

We get ripped off then in Canada. My 450 exhaust turns down behind the fascia and my exhaust opening is completely blocked so it's 100% cosmetic. Not sure why we don't get the same setup as the US!

2020 GLE 450 (No AMG exterior) in US and the exhaust is also pointing down, so I think it is the AMG exterior package that has the "real" exhaust

I have the AMG exterior package / Night package but no "real" exhaust. In Canada they call it Sport Package or Night package but it's the same look as the AMG exterior package.

Wait, what??? I just thought it was an early/recent build thing and not a market distinction.

I’m disgusted!

Unless they changed this for 2021 but I've got a late production 2020 GLE450 model (Aug. 2020) and there is no pass through exhaust. Not a huge deal now as I will likely add the Brabus tips ...

the amg styling package for the 2021 GLE 450 says it comes with the sport exhaust. maybe that means the tips are not pointing down.

Yeah, I’ve done some more research and it seems you are correct: the outlets are indeed false. Terrible. What are they thinking with hundred thousand dollar vehicles? Definitely takes some of the lustre off my order. How embarrassing! If I wanted an Audi, I would have bought one!

I’ll watch your ‘solution’ to the ‘problem’ but it would seem that a new muffler would be required which points the exhaust rearward, would be required.

We don't have a "sport exhaust" option listed as part of our "Sports Package" so thats likely why we get the fake exhaust fascia and the exhausts pointing down.

Greg,
I don't want to hijack this thread but what tire is that? I'm sick of the Bridgestone run-flats and have been weighing my options. That tread looks like the Goodyear Assurance Triple-tread tires I have on my Firebird. They have been great but the Firebird is a significantly lighter car.

That is the stock Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season, 315/40-21.
Edit: Forgot I had the Winters on. Michelin Alpin PA5 SUV 275/50-20.

Got the pricing today from our local Brabus dealer. These people are out of their minds !!!! They quoted $1950 CAD plus $140 for installation. This is for just exhaust tips, not the entire fascia. For reference, I was quoted just under $2000 CAD from my dealer for all the various parts needed to install the rear fascia from the GLE53 with the exhaust tips. I guess Brabus feels they can justify a higher price than original MB AMG parts.

Those look more like the Michelin PA5 winters in that pic.

What size do you need 20’s? Staggered 21’s? There are some good options for 20’s, a few for staggered 21’s.

I have the 255/50-19 Bridgestone extended mobility tires on it now. They produce a harsh ride.

The other factor with the 19s is the stock tire is way undersized compared to the other options (2" or so smaller OD). When replacing go 55-series, or use these wheels for snows and get 275/50-20s.

Did you ever upgrade your exhaust tips on your GLE to Brabus ? the link you shared didnt work so i couldnt see what you were trying to do exactly, or the look you were going for.

No, I haven't seriously considered doing this, since it's my wife's DD. Here is a thread with some good info on changing the tips, though: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...aust-tips.html
