21U Dashcam - Can't play recorded videos
I have the 21U dashcam on my 2021 GLS450. (Posting here because there's more activity here than on GLS forum). I plugged a 256 GB thumb drive into the USB port behind cup holders. Told vehicle to record loop videos. It recorded mp4 files onto the thumb drive, but when I go to play the files on my phone, PC or other device, the file won't play. On the PC, the message is:
Can't play
This file isn't playable. That might be because the file type is unsupported, the file extension is incorrect, or the file is corrupt.

I also can't find a way to play the file in MBUX and don't know if that's even supported. Has anyone been able to record and play dashcam videos on any device? Any help is appreciated.

Wish I were dealing with the problem since dashcam was not available on my 21 GLE, nor can it be retrofitted/activated.
VLC plays anything on PC or Mac and that's the way to go on either platform.

Looking back…..I wouldn’t get the 21U dashcam
It’s only 720 resolution, no audio capture and manual start every time I start the car. Still hoping MB has a future automatic start update in the future. It’s my first dashcam so I really didn’t know to ask the right questions at the dealer. Not a whole lot of specs were shared at the dealer other than very basic info.
Will be more prepared for my next purchase, so just another learning experience!

If you don't have AR, I noticed on https://rjautomotive.net/products/au...amera-retrofit that you can retrofit the AR camera (assuming you have MBUX High), so presumably you could enable the Dashcam in that case as well?

I'm totally stumped by this one. Tried two different Macs and I'll try a third a bit later. Tried everything except Adobe Media Encoder to see if it can open and transcode. Particularly frustrating since I am a video professional.

Files won't even play in vehicle. I can get the thumbnail but it only displays blank video. Next step is to try different recording media. I'm using a Samsiung T7 1 tb SSD formatted ExFat. Will now try an SD card with reader.

Dashcam starts every time Maybe
In my 2023 GLC 300 SUV the dash cam is keyed to the profile. Daughter in a slight fender bender and when I went to see the video it didn’t exist because it wasn’t turn on in her profile. I have it on in my profile but always thought once it was on it was on across the board. Not so, I turned it on in the guest too. So if you have more than one profile suggest you check all profiles.
