GLE 53 AMG New Owner - Already Having Issues

Well, first of all, hi to all if you, I picked up our new daily driver, the 2021 GLE 53 AMG 3 weeks a go. Haven't gotten to drive it around too much, but this week I noticed the car was acting weird.

When accelerating, right around 20mph, you hear an audible "thump" and the car jerks.

While coming to a stop, right around 6mph, again you hear a "thump" and the car jerks.

Took the car to my local dealer today who has always been amazing with me, and the service advisor jumped in for a quick drive with me and he also noticed that it wasn't normal. The car only has 400 miles and already having issues, which isn't exactly a good experience.

I wanted see if anyone else had similar problems.

It almost feels like something is engaging and disengaging. I tried to a do a search on the forum, but haven't seen anything like this reported.

I have the same vehicle with about 3,000 KMs on it and don't have this issue but this sounds a lot like my previous vehicle. I had a C63S and when I picked it up at the dealership, I drove it home (15kms) and parked it in my garage. As I parked it, it kind of jerked on me as I put it into park. The next day, I could not get it into gear. The dealership came and got it and had to replace the transmission. The transmission had to come from Germany so it took three weeks before I got the car back.

Doesn't feel like an issue with the transmission as it is consistent at the speed it does.

I am really starting to suspect it has something to do with the 48V system.

Sorry to hear. Start a paper trail with the dealer, and read about your state's lemon law requirements. While not desired, a lemon process could be in the future for this vehicle. This platform has been plagued from the beginning.

Keep records. This will end up resolved and done or the beginning of more issues the 167's are known for. Hence leading to a potential lemon buyback.

I had a similar issue with our W164 diesel (ML350), at about 300 miles. It turned out to be "debris in a valve body" which was replaced after a special order, and no other problems except a bad DEF heater at 65,000 miles (warranty replaced). Traded at 7 years and 85,000 miles.

My point is, that sometimes these problems appear right away, and it's more likely that you've seen the last of your issues.

This place is a joke.
This isn't the first one-sixty-lemon with problems, nor will it be the last. 2021 models and MB still hasn't worked through all the bugs, part of this being new powertrain options since 2020.

Of course I don't own one, they're junk. You can always count on owners who don't have any experience with more than the one they own to offer advice.

Wrong again…I guess you missed the fact that I had a 2020 & now a 2021. I also had an older beater like the ones you own and are now too embarrassed to list.

Wow you had 2, I'm sure you rented them both. You must be very knowledgeable. Tell me how much money you burned through during your rental period, that must be embarrassing. I've seen more one-sixty-lemons bought back by MB than you've seen driving on the road.

You need to get a life and find another way to amuse yourself. Being obnoxious does seem to fit you though. I don’t have a car payment as though that means anything. Hope your old junk is paid for so you can save up for a real car some day.

You seem angry. Nothing says "wannabe" more than a 53 ..lmao...keep "trying hard." I own two real AMG's with V8 power, both paid for, and either would outperform and embarrass your soccer mom "53" in front of your friends, if you had any.

You're right! I "wannabe" driving a straight six with the most advanced ICE and suspension available in the US. Not some old fashioned V8 with a too-stiff ride. And I am!

So, a new Casio watch with bluetooth is better than a 10 year old Rolex? Many would disagree. And the marketing experts may have brainwashed the weak minded to keep opening their wallets. 😉

My brand new 53 gle the 48 volt system just went out yesterday. Has to get it towed to the dealership. Super upset. Only got 2k miles on the suv. Been in the shop longer then I’ve owned the vehicle. It’s my wife’s suv and our first MB not making a great impression.

Was it built in Oct 2020-Jan 21 time frame?

Sorry to hear. As mentioned in this thread and on this forum section, gather all paperwork for dealer visits, service, communication, etc. Read your state's lemon law documentation requirements and be prepared to pursue a buyback or lemon transaction.

The 48V system is the number one reason I will not buy a pre-facelift 167, and likely not a facelift 167 if there are no non-hybrid powertrains besides the 2.0L 4 cylinder.

Separately, because it's too new, the M264 has not proven itself to be free of the piston cracking (new engine required) issue on the M274 in the C, E and GLC vehicles. If anyone has the courage to own a V167 GLE 350 beyond the warranty period, these vehicles will be the ones to watch.

Right, so let's get rid of our Patek and Rolex watches and start wearing an Apple Watch, then call it luxury as we drive to and from the dealer to pick it up from service. But hey, it's got the latest wiz bang tech so it has to be better, right? I'll take an AMG V8 over anything simply badged AMG all day. Regardless of vintage.
