GLE 450 regular suspension

Ok, so I should probably read the manual but hoping I can get a quick answer from the experts here.

I have the regular suspension on my GLE450 and I always thought, for some strange reason, that the suspension was one of the things you could customize with the Individual mode.

To my surprise (yes I admit I haven't read most of the manual) when I went into the Individual mode, there were only Engine, Steering and ESP that you could choose from Comfort or Sport. Suspension wasn't there.

So, I guess I mistakenly thought suspension was one of the components you could customize but I guess I was wrong.

You need air to be able to customize. At least on my 450 I could and set to S mode for suspension.

You need to have the Airmatic package to be able to adjust the suspension.

The steel spring suspension is very good on this car but it is what it is...not adjustable.

Based on other columns I have read it might be a blessing. I'm really happy with the steel suspension.

Coming from an AMG this suspension feels like a dream. I asked the dealer why it’s so hard to find a GLE with an air suspension or active body control his answer was we only do it for custom orders because the stock suspension is fine for anyone who is only doing paved roads.

Don't get me wrong. I think the steel suspension is fine. It's just that this is my first SUV so I'm getting use to the extra bounce I haven't experienced on my other coupes/sedans with firmer suspensions.

I really think it’s a hard trade off to make you know.. if you want comfort it needs to bounce a bit and not be so stiff. If you want sporty it needs to firm up so that’s where an active suspension really helps. For now hauling two babies around I prefer the bouncy yet airy quality to it all. Once they grow up and have smiles on their faces when I speed up then AMG will return to my garage.
