I'm also hoping that the increase is reasonable. One dealer told me he thought it would be between 500 and 800. Have read that it could be as much as 3% which is approx $2k.
Just an FYI, my 2021 (built in June) has AR so there's hope.

We have a July build that we took ownership of last week. Hoping they have it sorted but I'm going to guess that it has not been. This one replaced our 43 coupe... so now a little nervous waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I hope you are good to go! It has been a big let down for sure.

But same as you if they delay or delete anything else maybe just gotta play the waiting game or simply look at other brands. Hopefully they do fix some of the issues people have seen in previous MY builds.
I also recently placed an order for my very first MB, it’s a ‘22 GLE450, not sure the build date yet, but I was told the factory already kicked back 3 of my options. Augmented Reality, Dash Cam and the AIRMATIC Suspension Package. Really bummed about that one, those 3 options are not deal breakers for me, just disappointment. However, if they eliminate anything else “chip” related I would consider canceling and reorder early next year when all the chip dust settles.

He confirmed with the parts department that the part was not in stock at the dealership and would take 3-4 days to get, but they need to get it in the shop before they are allowed to order it officially. He did say there was somewhere that had "plenty of stock" and that's where it would be coming from.

There were keys on his desk already for a GLE 450 for the exact same problem and he said he has seen it several times, but mentioned that none of the ones replaced have come back a second time for it. Also, my concerns for a loaner came true. There were no loaners available this morning. He said they normally have around 100 loaners on site and they are down to about 50. Due to shortages the sales team has sold a lot of their normal loaner vehicles. They setup an Uber ride for me and said they will have a loaner available this afternoon.
Thanks for the update and hopefully they can get your car fixed shortly. Good news is the 48V battery seems to be readily available now and once fixed there doesn't seem to be recurring issues.

I just hope that if my 48V fails, that it does so when I'm close to home and not thousands of miles away.

Well, to be fair, everything has a finite life.

I have never seen you "attacked" for your snide comments and irrelevant onesixtylemons inserted into many threads. Just questions for details or references so we could learn more. Which you have not been able to provide. "Dismissed as irrelevant" would be a better description.
If you have something to provide, please provide it. Thank you.

Yeah, I did it lucky as far as when it decided to quit working. Still no word on the loaner yet but they say isn’t over.

Oh man... Sorry to hear about your and many others' issue with the 48 v system.

I just put a deposit on a 22 GLE 450- considering getting my money back before the build locks in.

Don't know where. you are but are you committed to buying the car when it comes is? In CA you can just not buy it when it gets to the dealer. Might want to play this out on a 22 since they are bound to get this right sooner or later!! If you can walk away when it comes in, you got nothing to lose.

Crap, sorry about your battery…I had myself convinced that it was a bad batch of batteries. We made it from Feb/2019 until almost year end 2020 with only one reported failure. This has to be costing Mercedes dearly so we have to wonder why they can’t get their arms around a solution.
I'm going on a trip next week through a lot of rural Nevada…fingers crossed.

Found this Xentry page

If this Xentry Tip is related to this issue, it might explain why it can take multiple trips to service. Notice the number of possible error codes, many diagnostic checks for the 48V system. (Hadn’t seen this on the forum yet, my apologies if it’s already been posted.)

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...84357-9999.pdf

Also, I found someone has filed a class action lawsuit in NJ with a complaint that sounds like this issue.

Mercedes Road Side Assistance is going to send someone to try to jump start it, but based off of what I’ve read on these forums I’m not very hopeful it will work. I’ll let everyone know if it’s that easy.
Sorry to hear about your dilemma. That was the error I received twice (12V battery) but each time it turned out to be the 48v battery, and jumping the 12v doesn't accomplish anything. There's probably a flatbed in your future, but I hope not.

I think we all know the 48V will eventually fail since it's a battery. I meant I hoped the failure happens when I'm close to home rather than across the country.

If it happens close to home, to me it would be no different than a dead 12V battery. Sure, it will take several days to get it fixed but between the loaner and our second car, I don't foresee it as a huge deal.

is there a sticky forum for these 48v battery failures? If not Would it make sense to have one so we can document it with our build dates models and year?

as a first time mb buyer it kinda has me bummed

There was a thread (see below) where people were posting but it’s probably only a small percentage. At one time in late December there were reportedly almost 100 batteries on BO. I ordered a GLE 450 that I picked up in early April 2019….there was only one failure reported on this Forum until late 2020. My GLE 53 made it 4 months but some fail almost immediately so no pattern. The EQ Boost is also in several other Mercedes models so it’s not just the GLE.

Ron, to your knowledge have the other models had similar failures? I didn’t think to look until you just mentioned it.

That’s my understanding…my Dealer had one on another model but I didn’t ask for detail. I was at the Dealer this AM and asked if they had other failed 48’s…the Service guy rolled his eyes and said several…but none recently. I went to the Shop area to get more info from the Mercedes Foreman but he was out to lunch. By now the problem should be identified so it would be nice to know what’s causing the issue. Two possibilities come to mind. 1. Electronic Control Module or 2. the packaging for the individual batteries.

Ron, you appear to be the MB go-to guy here. Based on your experience and contacts at your dealership, is this 48v battery situation a pandemic or does it just seem that way because a small amount of owners with real problems post their experiences? I always reference the expression “build ten thousand bridges and shoot one guy and what do they remember?”. (By the way, I cleaned up that expression to be pc). Would you think MB has a handle on this situation or would you think I would be rolling the dice with my 2022 order? I cannot imagine MB would continue to roll out vehicles with known issues. Your thoughts?

I wish I had an answer but I don’t. Is it widespread enough to warrant cancelling an order? I wouldn’t, but others would. I recently cancelled an order for a GLE 63S but did it because too many options were no longer available and it was looking like another December delivery. My GLE 53 is just fine…love the car but why not get the V8 engine? Now the E Performance Hybrid might be coming in a year or two or ???, so what to do?
Each failed battery has to cost Mercedes $7-8+K adding up the rush shipping, towing, installation labor and cost of the battery-so it would definitely be a high priority. The GLE is a high volume vehicle so I’m guessing your thought about “one guy” might be closer than that they will all fail. It’s a major issue so more users are going to look for answers and more will post. The minor “whistling mirror” got a lot more posts than the battery.

It seems that the issue runs across models that share the 3.0L inline-6 turbo engine with EQ Boost, which I think includes the GLE 450, AMG GLE 53, GLS 450, E 450 sedan and wagon, E450 coupe, CLS 450 and CLS 53, and Cabriolet 450.

I am inclined to keep my order on the books and only cancel if too many options are deleted. I would think they have a handle on new builds re: battery. I really don't want to deal with that issue. Right now, I live ten minutes from the dealer. Moving later this year and not sure how far the closest guy is and not wanting to start from scratch with SAs. Btw, did they ever fix the whistling mirror?
