Full Screen Navigation on the Drivers Display

I recently purchased a 2021 GLE350 about a month ago and still getting used to the MBUX info system and all the other goodies this car has but one thing that I've been trying to figure out is how to get the full screen option back on the drivers screen.

Before I even bought the vehicle, the sales guy gave me an overview of the MBUX system and some of the features it has and one of the things he showed me was the option to have the full navigation display on the drivers display. After purchasing the vehicle, that feature was still there till about 1 week after, when I made a 2nd delivery appointment with the dealership to give me a full overview of the car and all the bells and whistles. After we got done setting up my profile, it no longer gave me the option to display the navigation in full screen mode.

When I select the "home" button on the steering wheel then select "navigation", I only see 2 options instead of 3 like I did when I purchased the vehicle.

Spoke to the sales guy and he is not sure what happened and offered to find out why that is but so far no luck.

Hello!

I think that the third option only appears when you have defined a destination.

Have you tried this?

I checked on my GLE 350, I can see the full screen navigation screen on the driver’s display, did not need to enter a destination first.

I have the Premium and Premium plus packages with augmented reality navigation options.

I'll give that a try when the wife gets home but I'll be surprised if that works since I didn't have a destination set when it worked the first time.

Unfortunately setting a destination did not bring up the full screen option.

Mine allows me to use the full screen at anytime, a destination isn't needed. Could it be because of a user profile you sent up? Maybe try using a general profile and see if it allows it. It should come up as an option. You have the augmented reality option right? Apparently that is needed for it.

I can get a full screen too without entering a destination.

In the 2021 GLE350, there is a low and a high version of MBUX. You most likely have the low version which does not include the full scree nav. I am on the same boat, I was expecting it to be on mine until I realized my MBUX head unit is the low end one. Unfortunately it's not software upgradeable, you need a different head unit and my understanding is that it can't be retrofitted. Apparently, folks with augmented reality option have the high version which allows the full screen nav on the cluster.

With the GLE 350 you have to have the AR package in order to get the full screen navi on the drivers display. My GLE 350 does not have that option and I do not have the ability to use the full screen navi in the drivers display. My thinking is if you had the ability to do it on your exact GLE it should have the AR package and maybe the latest update on the GLEs took the full screen driver display navi away.

With any GLE (350 $450), you need to have augmented reality option to get full screen maps on driver's side display.

Can someone post the picture of driver display with full screen and not full screen?. My dealer doesn't have any GLE350 in stock. My 22 350 order was accepted with all options except Augmented navigation. Wondering if i need to cancel and wait. Thanks.

I wish I had a picture of the full display when I purchased the vehicle because both the sales guy and I were able to pull it up. I’m just confused as to why Mercedes would take it away a few days after I purchased the vehicle.

I believe that this was addressed in a prior post. In order to get the full Navi display, you must have the augmented reality feature.

I have AR. The first picture is what I have if I don't set it for full screen. I assume that is what it would look like if you do not have AR.

I have AR.

The resolution on the AR camera seems very very low.

Honestly Android Auto is better than all of Mercedes' navigation stuff.

That's not my experience in either case. AR has very high resolution.
Android Auto is pretty lame, especially after their devolvement into Maps, Waze and Assistant, which is changing further in the coming month or two. We'll have to see how that plays out.
To me, the only advantage of Android Auto is direct access to my music app subscriptions. For music, I hope they don't go to wireless, because Bluetooth has lousy sound quality.

Could be he has acoustic glass, which makes the camera seem lower res than it actually is (since it picks up the faint yellow dot pattern of the glass).

Mine def shows this, although I am really not bothered by it.

Cheers,

Interesting. I also have Acoustic glass, and the view on traffic light assist is pretty sharp, maybe not as sharp on AR, but still nice.
I turn off AR for Nav because I like the map diagrams better in complex intersections, which is where Nav is most useful.
On last year's 450, the Dealer had to sync the camera to get better performance.

Don't understand the comparison, and I don't have a dashcam, but the M-B resolution seems better than those YouTube videos.
I thought bodycam resolution was better than those vids.

I don't have the AR package, I'm not familiar with that package and everything that it comes with. I was just confused as to why did I have the ability and sales guy show me something on my vehicle that eventually went away after I purchased it. Like I mentioned earlier I wish I would have captured a picture of the full screen navigation but didn't dawn at me at that time.

Is there anyway I can find out the history of my vehicle so I can see if anything between the purchase date and the date I noticed it gone was pushed out to my vehicle?

This is something that troubles me for a long time and I have searched multiple internet sites and found the answer. The GLE comes with 2 different types of MBUX units (548/549). Long story short is the 549 unit comes with a better graphic card that can handle full-screen navigation in your dashboard as well as allow you to play video files in fullscreen. Put in your VIN number in one of the decoder site eg: https://www.mbdecoder.com/, you will find out what MBUX unit is with your vehicle.

The MBUX 549 comes with one of the packages depends on where you live, for me (In Australia) this comes in a package no one really chooses and the salesperson doesn't even know what is the difference is at the time I am ordering my car.

You can find the hardware data here:

Here are the steps to display full screen if your car supports it. Start by clicking the home icon on the left side of your steering wheel and select the "Navigation" option.
Once there, with the touch sensitive pad on that side, scroll up or down until you see "Full Screen". If you see it, then you're golden.

Cheers,
