B Service At 9500 Miles?

My 2020 350 is due for B service next month, it had the A service performed last March, and the on dash reminder is already nagging me every other time I start the car. I don't drive much and the car only has 9500 miles on it so I'm having a hard time justifying the extra expense. I'm ok with the oil change but with this mileage on a garage kept car, feel the other fluids changed as part of the B service would be a waste. Are there any other low milers here who have skipped the B service?

I went ahead and had the B service done on mine this past Dec, but my dealer’s price was fairly reasonable.

I don’t recall what all was done, would need to find the receipt. I do know Items such as brake fluid are more time dependent than mileage depend. Brake fluid is hydrophilic, and will condensate water in the brake line over time…too much water in the brake fluid is not a good thing. Of court there is a tester you can purchase that tells you how much water you have in the brake fluid. It really depends what they are going to service.

You are right Tex. I guess I'm just not used to thinking of these things outside of the usual "how many miles?" box...

It doesn't quite work like that. I think at the mileage you could do an A service this time.

So I called the dealer where I bought the car and asked some questions. The A service is $300 and the B service is $600. The only difference between the two is tire rotation, wiper blade replacement, and cabin air filter replacement are done with the B service. The brake fluid exchange is not included and although recommended, it's not required.

Here is the official description of the services: https://www.mbusa.com/en/owners/service-maintenance

My car is calling for service at 23,000 miles, 11 months and 7,000 miles after the last, which was a whopping $772. And that was without tire rotation, since I have staggered 21s. The schedule is ultra conservative if you don't put on many miles. Mercedes typically has a Spring service coupon; last year was for $150 off.

I specifically asked about the brake fluid flush and the SA said it's not included in their B service. It seems there's a lack of consistency across dealers.

Quite possibly. When purchasing my 2022 GLE53, the service manager advised against purchasing pre-paid maintenance because of the low mileage that I expect to drive. He suggested that I could have a 2nd Service A rather than a Service B if mileage was low (probably under 10k miles) after 2 years. I have not confirmed this with a 2nd opinion nor reviewed warranty documents to confirm this. I mentioned concerns about water absorbed into the brake fluid and he suggested that I could add a brake fluid change to a Service A.

…or they could test it for water content to see if it’s still in spec.

I follow what the booklet says, because I want to maintain warranty on the most unreliable car in America.

Hmm. Seems to me that to do such a test, the fluid would need to be flushed. If not flushed, where would the test be done? The fluid reservoir ? Fluid bled from one of the calipers? These samples may not show the whole picture. If the fluid is flushed, it might as well be replaced with new fluid. I wouldn't trust a limited sample.

Our dealer recommended an A service for year 2 on our AMG GTC roadster due to low mileage and expect to do the same with the GLE which has 6400 miles at the 2 year mark. If anyone pushes for a low mileage B service pick another dealer as that is only money driven.
