Have a 2022 GLE Coupe with 1,200 easy miles on normal roads. I was cleaning it just now and noticed chipping in front of the rear wheel arch and underside of the rocker panels. To me it's too much after only 1,200 miles. Crappy paint or improper mix and/or prep on those plastic parts possibly. Already have had many annoying quality control issues. Some I've dealt with myself and the rest the dealer will do when parts come in. At the very least I'll have to do PPF on that arch. I guess on the older models with the black plastic cladding you didn't have to worry about it. Anyone else notice chipping in that wheel arch area as well?

Paint started chipping pretty early on the hood leading edge of my 166. I have other chips; it looks good but it's fragile paint. Wife's BMW has zero chips.

I was told by my dealer that the body color wheel lip moldings on the AMG package are painted, and was warned that they chip...as shown in your photos.

Recommend you put some
paint protection film paint protection film
on them

I had xpel put on mine. This makes me happy I did.

OP have your flare repainted and PPF installed and you'll be good to go.

You have to literally get on your knees and be right on top to see it. At this point I'll use a #1 size camel hair artist paint brush and touch them up and then have the PPF installed. That will be good enough for me and will keep it from getting worse. Had I known that was a problem area I would have already done it. I did have the hood, mirror, headlights and complete front bumper done already. I've had a lot of cars over the years. I didn't expect or even think this would be a problem area on this arch otherwise I would have done it. Live and learn and thank you for your input.

Yikes. Is that behind or in front of your wheels? You drive over a gravel road recently? I wonder if mud flaps would help considering how far the wheels stick out, assuming that damage is behind the wheels.

Right here in the red. No gravel roads. Have 1,200 easy miles on normal roads for break in is all. You'd think by looking at the car because the rear arch doesn't really protrude out that it wouldn't be a problem. Upon further inspection it does stick out just enough. I went to the dealer yesterday and there was a used 2021 GLE 53 in white that was pretty pock-marked up in the same area and it had 21k miles. Going to get film done next week in those areas and I should be fine.

I had PPF installed on the full front, rocker panels and wheel arches for this reason. Every time I wash it and inspect it, I’m glad I did. Highly recommend it.

I wonder if most of the material impacting that area is from the front wheels and if mud flaps would indeed help. But yeah, PFF would certainly be easier and less obtrusive.

If I get mud flaps I'll most certainly have to add a cowbell also.

I have some micro-chipping in that those areas on my Arctic White with 25k miles but does not look as bad as yours. Just looks like a few dirt specks.
