Black 580 Badges

Just wanted to share my recent experience with some black eBay badges. I was a little hesitant - I thought for sure the quality or finish would be cheap but they actually seem more legit than the OEM's. My 580 has the black exterior accents so wanted to get rid of some of the chrome. $100 or so off eBay and probably an hour total. Used some Stoner Car Care Sap & Tar Removal and it took the old double sided tape right off!

Highly recommend it!

Can you please share a link as to where on eBay you bought it from?

Did the GLE come with that fender badge... thought that is AMG only?

Thank you for the link. I looked at the vendor but was wondering about the quality which you helped clarify. Was the size of the MB logo same as the original one? Some reviews mentioned the star was smaller than original.

The 580 didn't come with the bi-turbo fender badging but the 580 has a bi-turbo V8 so decided to add it for a bit more uniqueness.

You know I saw mixed reviews but they are identical in size/font/shape. Once I got the OEM badges off, they were a bit more flimsy than I thought they would be. The black eBay badges seemed a bit more durable - well see how the black holds up, hopefully it doesn't chip. Luckily I work from home so it spends most of its life in a garage and I hand wash my vehicles. I figured for $100 bucks, if they last 3-4 years and start to fade or look rough, I'll just replace again. Hopefully I don't have to but it wasn't difficult.

The star is identical to the OEM in size. I specifically remember holding them up together to ensure the studs on the back were in the same spot - since the star is not flat (its angled to fit across the trunk lines).

I'd consider one a poser if they put badging on that says AMG. Does it mean I'm a poser because I have the AMG exterior package and my wheels are stamped with AMG? I think not.

Not if it's factory.

I too find it to be a poser move. I think it should be removed. AMG parts from the factory don't make it an AMG.

Now that we're all nitpicking with opinions the fender badge says 4MATIC+ which a 450 isn't.

Looks good. How exactly did you take off the OEM badges?

Also, did you use anything to align them or mark the original position?

I used blue painters tape to tape the outline of the OEM badges prior to removing them. I then literally just picked them off with my fingers - they come off way easier than I thought they would. For the star, I had a plastic tool used for removing interior trim pieces that helped pop it out (it's on by two prongs and double sided tape). To remove the excess adhesive from removing the OEM badges I used Stoner Car Care Sap & Tar Removal. I've had good luck with that product in the past on some tough tar. Just sprayed some on a microfiber rag and it took it right off.

Even with it all cleaned up, between the faded outline of the original and the blue painters tape, it was pretty easy to put the new on right where the old were. Hope that helps!

What else works good is to set it out in the sun if applicable and/or use a hair dryer (heat gun not needed) then take some small fishing line and slice right through the double sided tape then remove what's left.

Thanks. One issue with coupe is that the rear star is part of the trunk release and can’t be removed. I read others have painted it.
