Question 2020 GLE450 adaptive headlights fail

Howdy, we have had the GLE at the dealership twice for repairs but got it back today and with supposed software updates the problem still persists
"Adaptive Headlights Currently unavailable - Camera View Restricted"
then the function turns off and
"Adaptive Highbeam Assist Currently unavailable - See Operator's Manual"

Has this happened to anyone else?

I could be wrong but there might be a camera/sensor up near the mirror that struggles to work when it gets dirty. Someone here has posted about this but not positive it was for headlights. Others will chime in.

It's a possible bug on the camera lens, too.

I had this problem for almost a year now. It’s been in twice for it and they never fix it because they said they could never reproduce it. It’s getting worse as to how often the warning pops up. Finally this last time, about a week ago, they realized it was the camera and they said, oh, it’s a known issue. Something about condensation in the lens. They currently have me a new camera on order with no arrive date known.

i first thought it was that camera and it was being blocked by my express lane transponder and moved it but that wasn't it ha ha

so you're thinking it's a hardware issue, software updates didn't resolve anything

Actually I meant bug jerky obscuring a lens.
Just troubleshooting thoughts.
There was also a previously reported batch of windshields / cameras that outgassed and couldn't be calibrated.

I get the "Adaptive Highbeam Assist Currently Unavailable" message often. Never see the Camera Restricted message though.

Typically, it will occur after having been driving for a while, it lasts for some period of time (5-10 mins) usually and then I will receive a message saying that the Adaptive Higbeam Assist has been restored and I'm back to normal (though I have to reactivate it). Usually, it won't occur again after it has done this recycle. I've posted a couple of times in the past about the issue on this Forum. It's puzzling to me that it resolves itself, if it were an issue with the camera I would think I would always see it. Other thought is either the software recycles after a point or something overheats and cools down to make it available.

Reluctant to take it in, because I did have the coding done to give me the "Adaptive Assist" feature enabled and would hate to lose it if they reset something software related. Also have wondered if it is happening because of the "adaptive" feature being enabled.

I had adaptive assist added too. My coding change was done by RJ, and he will re-add it if the dealer ever resets it. 9k miles since the change and I've not seen any errors like those just posted. Hopefully never will, but I'll take it in if it happens in case the light is defective etc. With all the computers in cars now, who knows what is causing the fault.

It’s one of the warnings I got and it probably relates to the camera being hazy from off gassing of the camera housing. Over time the plastic gives off fumes on a lot of GLE’s. It must be internal because you can’t just clean the lens.
I posted a thread with a copy of my work order showing the baking of the new housing and the camera was replaced. It improved traffic sign recognition a bunch and also made Distronic more accurate. The Camera and Radar are synced together and it doesn’t take much to mess things up. Even my recent windshield replacement required that the Camera be recalibrated. It’s not handy for me to post a link to the thread but I can tomorrow if that would help. There is a TSB or Tech Talk bulletin so most Dealers are aware of the issue.

take some alcohol swabs to it. Thank me later 🤟🏽

Remove housing from rear view mirror pull toward you then down, then proccesor? Comes toward you and down as well then u can slip the cleaning swab in there and get it as clean as possible go back and forth looking outside to see the clarity of glass and camera areas. Then wipe lens and put back together. 2k miles not a single beep 🤞🏽

Recvd same error msg, along with others about certain features that rely on camera not working. Took pics every time and then brought those to dealer, about 15 instances, and they agreed to replace the camera unit….on back order with no eta

I get this issue frequently. The camera unit has been replaced, as has a lens hood. It's better than it was, but the alcohol swaps idea is very interesting... thx @Amgfam00 !

That’s good news.
My replacement finally came in on Thursday and I hope to get it replaced next Wednesday. Fingers crossed that it works since next weekend I have a very long drive again.
