Aftermarket ambient roof lighting

I recently bought an aftermarket 64 color ambient lighting kit to install along the sunroof. I'm a bit unsure about installing it without instructions.

Now with the kit in hand, I realize there are 2 distinct designs out there. One has thick fiber optic lighting tubes and one has just a very thin lit edge, not sure if it's fiber optic. I'm hoping to determine which is more accurate to the OEM design.

Has anyone installed these? Are you happy with them?

Anyone with these factory installed able to take a picture of the actual lighting element?

These are the ones I bought and are the thin style:

These are the thicker style tubes:

. Though my thoughts would be neither lights, I wonder of the possibility of these lights being near eye level, would it affect your vision to see outside around your vehicle while driving at night?

The eye level lighting is already there and it's dimmable, color selectable, etc. So far it hasn't been an issue and I'm sensitive to that. The roof lights are well above you and behind you, so not likely an issue. Mercedes does offer them OEM from the factory and it definitely gives the car a cool spaceship feel at night. Of course, not for everyone.

I've never seen a factory option for lighting in the roof like that...

That pic I posted is from the Chinese seller and they definitely went overboard adding several lights that Mercedes never offered. I have a GLS, but often post here because it’s has so many shared components with the GLE and the forum gets so much more traffic.

I know roof lights were an option in several of the GLS variants including the Maybach.

I hear your concern. Note that the big screen and instrument clusters are normally brighter.

I enjoyed the extra lighting with the Burmester 3D package in my '20 GLE450. It seemed to complete the interior ambience tastefully.
The photo from the OP had really saturated colors, much more so than the Burmester lighting. With my settings, they were dimmer than the lighting surrounding the seat adjuster, which is controlled by the thumb-wheel near the fog light switch.
In contrast, the "No Burmester" interior seems a little imbalanced, architecturally speaking.

To be clear, I normally don't like ambient lighting very much, but I did like the Burmester lights.
I didn't have the sunroof lights.

To the OP, I'd get the narrow, more subtle lights.

That must be a pit to install. Post pictures of the installation process.
