Reap what you sow

I think it’s very obvious I hate this thing. It’s poorly engineered and even more poorly assembled. The quality is just not there. I honestly feel like people who have no problems should buy lottery tickets.

Well, I’ve been trying to unload this thing. I only have 2,500 miles on it and really the amount of interest on this thing is nil, zero, zilch. I highly recommend you don’t buy this car and if you must—for whatever reason—lease. Don’t be a fool like me and buy.

It seems like I’m riding this freaking thing for a few more years. Mercedes should be ashamed for designing and building this thing. I’m saving up my gigantic laundry list of failures for my next (4th) dealer visit and you better f$#%ing believe I’m counting the days.

Sorry to hear of the experience and not surprised.

Have you tried an instant offer from cargurus, kbb and the like? I received an instant offer, then one week later I received a higher unsolicited offer from the same online site. Sold the car to a dealer for 30% more than the first instant offer after 5 minutes of negotiating. Suggests that I capitulated too early and with another 5 minutes of intense negotiation I could have gotten another $1,000...

Mid-size SUVs are selling well now. If you want out of the vehicle, it can be done.

This place is a joke.
Now would be the best time to trade out of it or sell it using one of the sources that chassis mentioned. Carmax around here has been paying almost retail prices for clean used cars. Your GLE will never be worth more than it is today.

All these months of complaints and you have only been to the dealer three times?

After refusing to post documentation of Dealer work orders one can only wonder what’s really happening! Is it the car…the Dealer…or the customer?

Did you sell to online dealer ie KBB or Mercedes dealer. I am reluctant to use online dealers for such high priced vehicles. TIA.

2021 GLE 53 Iridium Silver
I sold my GLE 53 in one day after posting it on Auto Trader. Had it for 16 months and sold it for $6000k under what I paid for it. I was so tired of the safety features on this vehicle kicking in when it shouldn't. I can't count how many times I would be on the highway and all of a sudden the vehicle would apply the breaks and drop my speed by over 40KPH. When using cruise I had cramps from doing a death grip to stop it from warning me to put my hands on the wheel. I had radio issues that would shut down the sound and I couldn't get it to work again unless I parked the vehicle for about an hour. I constantly complained and the dealer said everything is working as designed. Moved back to the BMW line and hopefully this works out better for me.

The hot used car market makes trading cars about as good as it’s ever been.
It’s too late now but the traffic sign issue was addressed in my previous posts (for anyone else with the problem). Outgassing on the camera made the lens cloudy and misreading traffic sign more prevalent. A new camera made a big difference but I still turned off the function and never had another harsh braking incident. The warning using Distronic is pretty standard across the industry…except for Tesla and maybe the recent Level 3 cars from Merc, GM & Ford. Some are set to 10 seconds vs 20 on the Merc. Sensors in the steering wheel keep getting rumored.
The radio issue is a new one. One way to get past the Dealers need to replicate the error is by taking a video showing the malfunction. I’m doing that now with my Porsche that had a blank Nav screen a few days ago.
These cars remind me of some old Windows computer systems. Tech is nice when it works but….

I sold to the dealer behind the KBB instant offer. The message is that "instant offers" are in fact executed by brick-and-mortar car dealers.

I think KBB and Edmunds "shop" the VIN and description to brick and mortar stores, while CarGurus and the like buy for their own inventory.
A Cargurus bid last spring was $8,000 over MSRP, with 13,000 miles on my '21. It was an increase of $2,500 from the bid they offered a week earlier.

At year-end, it was $6,000 under MSRP. Pretty decent, low depreciation IMO.

I think I have a chance to get out of this car but it’s only for another Mercedes. No negative equity (maybe) and my payoff is in the mid $90s since my MSRP was $101k and I just got this in July.

It’s for a 2023 S500. The deal is a little hokey in that they are discounting $12,000 off of MSRP and I have to play $11,500 in negative equity, essentially netting me $500 off of MSRP. I’m going ask this question in the S forum, but are discounts that big right now? If so, then I am essentially still eating $11.5k in negative equity.

I’m also leasing versus buying.

As much as I have reservations about MB’s overall quality, I feel like this is a second chance that I might not get again. I feel like I can roll the dice again and hope to it doesn’t annoy me. One big caveat in my favor, though, is that it’s lease,so even if this car bestows misery on me, it’s not really mine and I know I can walk away Scott free. Also, the lease rate is higher than my current interest rate (and my payment goes up).

Could be double sixes or snake eyes, not good odds. The S500 has the same powertrain as your GLE53 but tuned down. Glutton for punishment?

I know. I just want to escape the endless rattles, the crabbing and clunking transmission. I have rabbit ears and I’m absolutely OCD when it comes to rattles. I’m thinking about the AutoTrader route, but my payoff is $95k and one test drive and they’ll walk. I have another dealer appointment but I so god damn hate going there for service and having to beg and plead that they’ll find the rattles and fix them. I have the high-end Burmeister and Napa as selling points but it’s priced near new ones. Of course, the mileage is low.

I approached Audi and BMW and they both laughed at my payoff.

Mercedes could troll me and I could be walking into another rattling, electrical gremlin nightmare. Sigh, this sucks. I wish I kept my BMW.

My cayenne has more rattles than my gle. Gle is silent in comparison.

OP, Stop whining publicly and get a car that you don’t feel like complaining to strangers on the internet who can do nothing to help your tiny little ego. No one cares of a single gle that makes its owner unhappy due to some interior rattles and their sensitive little “rabbit ears” 🐰

Hmmm OP, not sure if this was suggested before but did you try a different dealership. They are all independently owned and another might be more willing to try to help out?

Same thing here….my Merc was very quiet at all speeds. My Cayenne doesn’t have rattles, but the wonderful GTS exhaust rumble would hide them around town if there were any. At higher speeds the Cayenne just isn’t as quiet and I have a little wind noise on the driver side window at 80+.

OP was posting earlier about his POS BMW with a $20k (or so) repair estimate that he posted. He seems unable to post any details from “supposed” Dealer visits though. The GLE forum is the first one I’ve seen with so much BS negativity. Most mature adults are looking for answers not sympathy. Maybe it’s time for an automotive counseling Forum for those with emotional issues.

Hey Ron, what $20k repairs are referring to? That thing was under warranty with 9k miles on it when I sold it.

There’s some sad irony about you complaining about me complaining especially when no one is forcing you to read my posts. Do my posts bother you that much? Is it any different than my POS $100k+ car bothering me that I can’t freaking ignore?

All of the dealers within my area are owned by the same group. I have to drive 100+ miles to reach a different dealer. My dealer does try to help but the fact that I have to waste my time going there is what pisses me off. Maybe my expectations are different, but I don’t appreciate having to make unplanned dealer visits on a car this expensive. One or two times, fine. But not this many times.

I drive 100 miles to my chosen dealer, because I won't get service done at any of the dealer group's stores.
it's a pain but I have done it with my four most recent Merc's. They get my business, I get their support.

Relationships are still important in the Car Biz today.

2023 EQB300
Re: Used car values. Just ordered a MY23 EQB300. The GLE350W4 goes off lease in October and i prepaid the lease (and then got yelled at by our financial team for paying up front and not letting the money work for us). But as of 2/1/23, used car mgr at our dealership said there was $7K equity in the GLE. They would have gladly bought the GLE since Mercedes dealers can now buy the lease. As I discovered (and this forum confirmed) Carvana, CarMax etc can buy the lease from MBUSA Finance but they need to pay the state tax and title the car. This of course cuts down my net by the NJ sales tax. So back to the OP, if you have have purchased the vehicle and dislike it so much, you can get out of it very easily. We have no idea whether used car values will soften in the future so just do it now in order to live a much happier life. Works for everyone except my father of blessed memory whose greatest joy in life was complaining bitterly about every car he owned-- and he bought a new car every year.

If we assume that your current GLE 53 really has a ton of issues and you basically got unlucky, then I think you might as well trade for the S500 and try your luck again.
