I am deciding between the AMG GLE 53 and GLE 450. I always wanted an AMG, but I heard it is a rough ride compared to the 450. Any advice would be appreciated!

Definitely try to test drive both, if you find the ride quality on the GLE 53 too much, consider downsizing tires and getting rid of run-flats, also make sure to get a vehicle with the ride control option, that will help a lot. I forgot if it is standard for the GLE 53.

If fuel consumption is not a problem with you the 53 will be better. With the airmatic option in the 53 it should be comfortable in the comfort setting. If you want to push it to the next level get the $8k E-ABC option. You can option the airmatic on the 450 but not sure if you still can add the E-ABC.

I致e driven both 53 seats are sportier don稚 know if they would be comfortable long drives and 53 has bigger wider tires more $$ when replacing. 450 gets better fuel economy if that痴 a concern for you. Only thing I really liked was the look of the 53 rear exhausts looked great.
But I went with the 450 for the fuel economy I drive long trips twice a month. Went with AMG exterior, 20 inch wheels and airmatic suspension. $5 gas and reasonable priced new tires replacements made up my mind to get 450

I see that is good for those who hate the run-flats and don't need third row. So non-3rd row vehicles have a spare inside? Is that why the 3rd-row eliminates the traditional tires and opt for run-flats because it wouldn't fit under the floor cover? Was hoping the ride control helps with ride quality as well.

Of course the handling is much sharper, making the car feel a lot smaller and nimble.
It's also smoother than E-ABC if the irregularities are one-sided, like a pothole. The E-ABC is only smoother when the irregularity runs full width of the lane, like a speed bump or dip.
So if ride quality is important, either get a GLE53 with ARC, or a 450 with air.
ARC is like the 450 Standard Air in Sport, but much more forgiving on big bumps. The Active Sway Bars relax their tension with rapid suspension movement (= pothole or bump).
I can't stand the floaty ride of the 450 in Comfort, so it's always in Sport anyway.
I owned a 450 w/ E-ABC and now a 53 with ARC.
(I like the seats better in the 450.)

AMG Ride Control (ARC) does both. The ride quality is significantly improved with ARC.

I am really upset that ARC was taken out on the 53 as it is not an option for the 53 ordering guide. It seems it is only on the 63S. They really gimped the 53 for 2024. I was considering it mostly because of the red leather interior and the $5200 dynamic plus package with the red calipers, but it is exclusive to the 63S. I知 so annoyed about that the ride quality won稚 be as good as the prior 53s I知 assuming. I might as well get a 450 or 580.
I really like the power of the supercharged six - it moves the 5,200 lb car pretty nicely. I probably use it more often than is wise, though.
I bought the 53 for occasional track work, but there's not enough tire (or seat) for extended, 9/10ths track time. Autocross is the correct niche.
A 450 (580???) would suit me better.

If you want a smooth ride, get 21 in AS tires with a space saver spare and air ride. The higher profile tires and non RF is really nice. I have it on my current GLE and have ordered the 24 with the same tires and wheels. Don't be concerned about the sport seats. They are super comfortable on long trips.. Full disclosure, I also have Multi Contour seats with massage.I would recommend that option also.

I might not have been clear, but my experience is that the 53 with ARC has a better ride than a 450. Especially when you consider the floaty ride, which is uncomfortable to me.
My other point is that, without the ARC, it's firmer, and isn't as rewarding to drive.
Which is all kind of irrelevant, since its NLA next year.

For me as long as GLE has the airmatic option, don't really care about the AMG looks body kits, remember Merc is famous for comfort.

Just test drove the GLE450 both coupe and SUV models. Coming from the current AMG owner unless you go for top end AMG (GLE63s), the AMG wanna be models (C43, GLE53 .... etc) doesn't really give you a sports car experience.
