It was a $200 option from factory from what I recall and it sounds like, from what others said in this thread, it's not available to activate anymore for North America. I've seen videos of it around. It isn't great. Low resolution and you have to manually start recording before every drive.

I have a MY 2022 GLE 450 with AR and dashcam. When I first received it, I was rather annoyed that it had to be manually turned on everytime. Then one day, a couple of months into ownership, it turned on by itself. I went back to the settings and discovered that automatic recording was now enabled. It has been a year now, and it continues to turn on by itself. I refuse to mention it to dealership, as they might disable it.
Previously owned a 2022 GLE350 which included "Augmented Reality Navigation" and "Dash Cam". This option also gave me a full navigation screen on the instrument cluster side of the dash.
The dash-cam started recording automatically every time I started the car and the video quality was great (this is the same camera used for the AR navigation). I traded that for a 2022 GLE450 which did not come with that setup.

Looks like they must have did a software update to do that. Excellent. How's the video quality in day and night? I saw a sample of it somewhere and I wasn't impressed but that could have changed as well.

I ended up adding a Garmin on the front and a separate ROAV on the back door. When we remember we also activate the built-in camera which is not real good video but gives a third view.

For what it's worth, attached is a daytime clip. If you squint hard enough, you can make out license plates. Good enough for my purposes.
To be clear, they discontinued it at the factory level. If you order a new car today, you won't be able to add it to the build.
They won't revoke it if you already have it - no need to worry.
Option 21U Dashcam $200.00 is on my purchase order for a 2024 GLE450. It also shows in the most recent order guide. Whether or not the car actually shows up with it installed may be another matter.

Just out of curiosity, do you know what makes it illegal? There are hundreds of webcams out there that record audio. Why would it be illegal for Mercedes to do the same?

There's no expectation of privacy in public and and as citizen journalists its even our 1st amendment right to record public road conditions. On private roads and in private structures it depends if you're in a one-party or two-party consent state but that would make it illegal to record video also. The interior mics probably don't capture much outside noise the way these cars are designed so I guess they just decided it wasn't worth the trouble. And I really don't want the insurance company hearing me yelling expletives at all the stoopid fookin' drivers on the road anyways so it's just as well if you ask me.
FWIW though, my new 2023 EQE SUV has AR Nav and I added the dashcam software for $200 from the Mercedes me store after purchase. Don't know why they're holding it back on your cars. Surely it doesn't require that much CPU power.
Same here - brand new 2023 EQB 350 loaded with features incl. U19 AR for Nav (which works fine), but the mbusa shop page says I cannot even buy the dashcam feature due to the hardware I have. Having read through this thread I assume that I have the 720p cam, but they will only offer activation if you have at least 1080p.
Pathetic decision-making by MB to use a crap cam in the first place, but to also not offer to activate the dashcam feature anyway.
Also very disappointed that my car has no XM radio which I assumed as a given on any luxury car. Yes I can play back XM via CarPlay, but that's obviously not the same as being able to receive music anywhere outside data coverage.
The guys at MB should be smarter than making such cheap reputation-ruining moves.

I do not see it in the dash as an app to use/turn on, i have tried plugging in a USB and see if it comes up, and it doesnt.
I also installed the MercedesMe app and dont see anything in the app for purchasing anything, where others say you can add it there - confused

Augmented Reality is option U19
If you have AR; then it should be easy as Dash Cam utilizes same camera. I know someone who just leased a 2024 GLE450. It has AR but no Dash Cam. He was able to pay $200 at dealership via Mercedes Me App to activate it. Yes U.S. Without either option, I don't beleive you can do it.

It's not super obvious in the app where to go for purchases, at least for me. On Android, from the main overview page, tap on the 3 lines on the top left to open the menu, then tap on the picture of your car under your profile pic. From there choose Manage Services, and see if you have anything to purchase under the various submenus there.
Confirming what was said above. I have a 2024 GLE and was able to purchase the DashCam option from the digital store. I can also confirm that automatic recording is now enabled in the U.S. (on my 2021 GLE I had to start it manually each trip).
I confirm for a 2024 GLE dashcam recording can be configured to start automatically each time you start the car.
No audio recording, however, and the excuse given my MB is extremely weak (legal reasons) - the US already allows recording audio/video in public places, and certainly in private spaces you own/control.
I got my dashcam paid for as I ordered the vehicle, but the dealer did confirm I could have purchased it after taking delivery of the car via the portal.

Thank you ALL for very helpful advise - has helped a lot in my understanding. As it happens car was in for 40k checkup yesterday and i asked the dealer about adding the Dashcam software, at first he didnt even know what i was talking about, then came back with $10k in equipment and software to do it - OMG.
So using the info you folks provided, i went to MB.VIN to see the options installed on the car, and U19 - Augmented Reality video is installed (which i thought so because video will pop up when using MB GPS for turns). Using the link https://shop.mbusa.com/en-us/connect/pdp/dashcam/608 this is all that is needed to install U20 - Dashcam via MBconnect. So will try that this evening or tomorow and see how that works.
Thank you again !! will let you know how i make out - there were directions to the MB Connect store for Andriod, will try to translate for my iphone.

Was you AR required to have Mecedes Me app activated to work? Just curious. Mine is saying it's not activated. But I see it was installed on my Build sheet and I show it enabled in my options.
