Power source (cigarette lighter type) in cupholder area
I tried to use my radar detector and it won't power up from this supply.

Without looking in the owners manual, I'm assuming the ignition must be turned on. Was it? If not, maybe it's the plug on your device, or possibly the vehicle. I had a USB cigarette lighter plug that didn't work well unless you jiggled it

I think you mean the plug in not deep (long) enough.

When I bought and picked up my car S/A told me cigarette lighter power has only enough power to use a cigarette car phone charger that’s it. Anything else bigger that needed more power would blow a fuse,
