Active Lane Keeping Assist 'jolt'

I'm now in my 4th year of GLE ownership, not buying another due to the terrible jolt you get of you stray over the line. On motorways I have to switch it off, and it has been the reason why I won't buy another GLE.

Does anyone else suffer with the jolt, or do you just live with it? Can it be turned off permanently with a recode?

Have you seen this overview of the system to see if it can give you better guidance on the system and its capabilities and limitations?

Mine is always set to 'off.' It IS a pretty strong jolt.

Push the Car button on the center console, just between the Parking and Star buttons.

I think if you set it to 'off' there, it'll stay off until you turn it on again, including restarts.

I think you can set it to 'warn only' as well. That's what my '21 does. YMMV.

It is a nasty jolt, scared the crap out of me a few times so its permanently off. I prefer it that way.

I don't think you need coding. It already remembers where it was set.

I have to switch it off each time I use the car - it reverts back to standard (also confirmed in that video posted).

I leave it on for short trips, but for motorways etc I switch it off.

What year is your car? Are you in the US?
Both my 20 and my 21 GLEs remain where I set them.
Are you using the Car button on the center console to access the menu?

Works differently for AMGs vs non-AMGs. In AMG models it stays off permanently, but in non-AMG models it defaults back to on next time the car is started. Also, there are two LKA systems. If the car is equipped with the Driver Assistance Package then you get Active Lane Keeping Assist which under the given circumstances jolts you back into your lane. Without the Driver Assistance Package you get passive LKA, which only warns and vibrates. On certain models this may differ and you always get Active LKA.

It is one of those systems that came about because of the terrible drivers that roam the roads, but is unnecessary for anybody who actually knows how to drive and pays attention. Now we are all human and sometimes are distracted, so there's that, but I've turned it off in my AMG as well and as said thankfully it stays off. There are cars and then there are driver's cars. One reason I drive an AMG and not a regular Benz is because I'm a driver and not a passenger in my own car, so I appreciate that these systems stay out of my way when I don't want them. It's similar with ESP. The ESP thresholds in an AMG are higher than in a regular Benz, so you get less interference even when it's on, and I can always completely turn it off.

It didn't, and needed coding. Market dependent, I think. Now it remembers.
