Can you get 20 inch AMG tires on a GLE without purchasing the AMG package?

I presume you mean AMG wheels? You have to buy the AMG Line Exterior package. If you don't want the AMG package, check out the Marketplace forum here for used/takeoff AMG style wheels. Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are alternate potential sources for the OE AMG wheels. Just make sure you're buying takeoffs from the 167 GLE to ensure you're getting the correct fitment. And watch for knockoffs.

Get the AMG appearance package. It’s not just for the wheels. You also get upgraded brakes.

As others have mentioned the AMG wheels will only be available with the AMG appearance package; be aware of knockoffs if buying used. Look for GLE owners or previous owners that are unloading their used set, if its a "new" set for a very low price be very wary as it'll most likely be replicas. I picked up a set of take-offs (just rims w/ TPMS) from a euro shop recently for use with dedicated winter tires for $1600 recently so they definitely are out there on FB marketplace, forum marketplace, eBay, etc.

Additionally, be aware that previous Gen GLE and ML wheels are not directly compatible, you'll be looking for wheels with part numbers that start with A167. Below is a link with part number references for OEM wheels for confirmation when you do decide to buy.

What else comes with the AMG package? Don't you still pay for the AMG tires? Panoramic Sunroof? etc? I am thinking it will add an additional $4k for no real reason.

You should be able to itemize what you get by going to the online build or DOG listed on this Forum…and look at what Mercedes lists for the package. If you don’t mind an (IMO) ugly car go for the Non AMG. Take a look at the two and you will see a big difference in looks. You rarely see a non AMG, I’ve only seen two in the last 4 years. You are paying more up front but will recover some back at resale.

I'm with Ron on this, for $3150 to have the AMG body styling & larger wheels, I think its worth it. Considering buying wheels alone w/ tires in the used/takeoff market will run you a minimum 2k-2.5k. The aesthetics w/ AMG package is much more pleasing (to me personally) over the base look.

I see your point but I like the classic look. I really would like the vertical bar grilles which was the old traditional look.

If you prefer the non-AMG styling then that's what you should buy. I'd recommend ordering one of the two 20" wheel options so you'll have brand new tires, then you'll only have to shop for the AMG wheels. 20" wheels will also be easier to find a home for if you decide to sell the OE wheels.

Yes, the GLE53 will give you the vertical bar (Panamericana) grille with a starting MSRP of $86,750.

I ordered a GLE 450 with natural grain grey oak trim and there are dark vertical streaks in the wood. Has been anybody seen that?

How about a close-up? Hard to tell from that photo. Wood isa natural material, of course, but does it look like it's in the finish?

I have same wood trim and it definitely doesn’t have those streaks. Yours might have got streak marks from the cleaner they used to prep your vehicle. Maybe try using wood cleaner/polish and if that don’t work bring it to the dealer they might have better wood cleaners or even order you a new trim piece I’d think it’s an easy fix. Good luck and safe travels.

I haven't purchased it yet. The vehicle just arrived last week and I went by to inspect it and saw the streaks

In that case I would just point it out to the dealership they will correct issue they are experts at prepping these cars. Before these vehicles are delivered there is lots of prep work and quality control. That is a very minor issue in my opinion and should be corrected in short order. Definitely not how that trim is supposed to look though.

Does anybody have the illuminating running boards on GLE? Any thoughts? Is it worth it?

If you're taller than 5ft, they are of no use except maybe if you have to hop over a puddle or slush. The aesthetic looks good though.
