If this is an OTA software update fix, all you need to do (can do) is sit back and wait for it to happen. I've heard other forum members say that dealers won't do software updates if MB's fix is available OTA.

That is if you have an active or renewed Mercedes-Me Connect subscription. If you don't, OTA updates are disabled and you will need a visit to the dealership.

Are you sure about this? I can't imagine NHTSA telling any car manufacturer that they can charge car owners a subscription fee to receive safety recall updates. Besides, dealers don't want their service bays congested with low revenue recall and warranty jobs. Fixing problems with software OTA updates is one of the greatest innovations and cost savings ever.
I've never signed up for MercedesMe, but I did receive one OTA update about 2 years ago.

100% sure. It is in fact specified as part of the renewal.
I just renewed yesterday after a 2 month hiatus where I missed 1 update because my Mercedes-Me was expired. I had this update done at the dealership while servicing my vehicle.

There are updates that are not safety recall updates, and a MercedesMe subscription might well be needed for those. BMW has these types of non-safety related updates available. The one BMW released a year ago locks out the ability to code options. What a great feature!

Just curious about the logistics of MercedesMe OTA updates. Do you request/authorize the update in the app and it gets loaded directly to the car, or does the app get downloaded to your phone and then transferred to your car? Do you have to agree so some software license prior to installing?

Some of the OTA updates I received (maps for example) just happens while you drive and I only received a message on the car that it was completed. I didn't have to agree to anything.
I also received a CARFAX notification which says "remedy is available" but I need to "call" if parts are available. Also, my recall #2024030007 Downshift Operation Transmission Software, is a different recall than indicated by the OP. The good news is my vehicle never exhibited the stalling issue. Over 100,000 GLE 450's are affected by the recall. The AMG line is not impacted.
Although my Mercedes ME subscription has expired, one would think a Safety issue resolution via an OTA update would be pushed out regardless of a customer's subscription status.
Update: on the recall notice there is no mention of an OTA update, looks like a trip to the dealer is required for the fix.

I agree -- I've never had a MercedesMe subscription, but I did receive a safety recall OTA update. In fact, the recall notice stated not to contact the dealer. MB might be nickel and diming owners with subscription fees, but there 's absolutely no way NHTSA would allow safety updates to require payment. Dealers must do ALL recall services at no charge and OTA updates are no different.
