12v starter battery
Has anyone replaced this battery yet….the one that has the jump terminal under the hood near the master cylinder? I’d welcome your input on the battery part number and where exactly is the battery located and procedures to remove and replace so as not to generate any fault codes that only the stealership will clear
many thanks

I just had my 20’ GLE 450 battery replaced. Car was in for transmission module recall…. Dealer call and said 4.5 yr old battery needed to be replaced (getting weak).
OK, I thought no big deal…get AAA or local shop replace..so I initially declined dealers $700 battery. Did a brief search on replacement process…. Sure enough… driver seat, various trim panels need to be pulled, several wire harnesses need detached and reconnected….UGH,….Called back and had dealer do it… couldn’t imagine a local indie getting all those steps completed without consequence. So… now OEM replacement installed. Seems silly , however to have that type of design battery location…could be better for routine servicing.

A regularly used 12v AGM battery should last much longer. It will of course lose capacity, but should retain plenty of cranking power beyond the point when the battery testers report the battery is bad or weak. I have an H7 (vs the H8 in the GLE) AGM start battery in my vehicle that is now almost 10 years old. According to my tester it is down on capacity and "bad" with 680 CCA vs the 1000 it started with, but it still starts a big high compression V8 with no issues. I will likely wait until a cell dies before replacing it.
I would also expect any of the 48v vehicles to have their 12v battery last even longer as it won't be doing starting duty.
