GLE580 Oil Pressure Sensor?
One of these apparently failed in a 2021 GLE 580 with 27k miles. My mother in laws car. Warranty was out in January.
This is the mild hybrid twin turbo v8. I think it’s the m177 - seeing some posts about an oil solenoid but nothing about an oil pressure sensor. Dealership is saying it’s a “high cost repair” because this sensor is “in the engine”. Just want to see where it actually is. Not sure if an FSM is available somewhere I can download.
I recommended they take it to an independent Mercedes mechanic. But I also want to see exactly where it is. Just want to make sure they don’t get ripped off.

It might be part of the oil pump and valve assembly, sandwiched between the lower block and oil pan.

Given the info provided by chassis I don't think it would be too heavy on the wallet for an independent to handle. Oil will be drained, oil pan dropped, sensor replacement, oil pan replaced.
on a side note @chassis , would you happen to have the CPS locations for the GLE580 also, I didn't want to take things apart to search for them.

“Pan drop” in this case means the structural part straddling the front axle. Whoever has WIS can post the procedure pan drop - I wouldn’t be surprised if it is an engine-out job. Small plastic sump removal does not give access to pump removal.
I will see what I can find on the CPS, it’s probably already posted in an AMG section of this site. Usually 11 o’clock on the transmission bell housing.

On our 2021 GLE63 it required engine removal. Find someone to code it out is my advice. I was told it keeps the oil pressure constant at like 35psi instead of increasing with engine rpm's. It fails to working like a normal engine where pressure increases with rpm's. Nothing will get damaged by its failure. Some people disconnect it thinking it will increase the engine life. I researched this after we have encountered so many issues after the "repair". They had us keep driving ours until they could schedule it in and that is what they told us. They said they were instructed on some vehicles to code it out but that MB wanted it replaced supposedly on ours. It has never been right after this repair. Multiple issues followed after the engine removal and reinstallation. We are waiting for it to be picked up from our home and we are having it taken to another dealership at this moment. The dealership that did the damage they considered the repair will not see one of my vehicles again if I can help it. Ours is under warranty but it has been back multiple times and has given multiple error messages after this procedure was done. Hopefully if she chooses to get it done she will not have any issues. We were not so lucky.

For the CPS (crankshaft position sensor) I am going with 4 o'clock on the engine block. Unlike prior MB engines where the CPS was at 11 o'clock on the transmission bell housing.
Cam position sensors (4 of them) are in the traditional MB locations on the cam covers directly above each of the four camshafts, toward the front of the engine. Same as M274, M276, M278 and M157.
If someone has WIS it would be helpful to see the M176 or M177 diagrams.
If this is a DIY project I would start looking in this area. If dealer or indy, they will know where it is.
