Turbo lag on 350 vs 450
I lived with both the 350 and 450 for some time both 2024's. I had a 450 for about a little over a week for a loner.
The 450 was nice, it had better top end power. However do I think it is worth the extra money? No, not at all. I said it multiple times when driving it. It wasn't anything more special then my 350... If you're going to trade in the 350 I'd advise you try to find a 580. It's the sleeper a lot more HP, non AMG so you don't pay the 53's AMG insurance.
If you're going to upgrade, do it right. Don't just go to the 450. you'll get board and realize it's the same car that you had.
I also think the 53's have a 10k cash incentive on them. The dealer won't tell you unless you bring it up.

Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with you here. After having my 24 350 for almost a year, and after only having my 450 for a few days, there is a night and day difference in the way these two vehicles drive. The 450 doesn't rev as high because it doesn't have to work harder to push the car, it doesn't sound like I'm trying to drag race someone when I go to pass them like it did with the 350. Lag that I experienced with my 350 is non-existent in my new 450. It's a HUGE noticeable difference. I'm in Delaware for the holiday, I took my mom for a ride the other day and she even said she noticed how much more power my 450 had compared to the 350 and she doesn't usually notice that stuff. It's overall more quiet, when I step on the gas, the car just goes, no delay, no hesitation at all, the force actually pushed my mom back in her seat which never happened with the 350. I LOVE the way the 450 drives compared. I actually have fun driving my vehicle now.

However in my finding. The 450 Never threw me back in my seat. I never found my 350 noisey from the engine ( rattles yes) but engine no. I don't ever think I ever did hear the motor. I had the 450 for over a week and it just wasn't worth the price increase IMO. It just didn't do anything for me, there was no night and day difference in my findings... Away's had passengers in both the 350 and 450. No one noticed a power difference.
Well I'm glad that you love yours. It's great that you're happy with your new 450.

Ok, you know.. You come across as very condebsending.. Opinions are like *******s... Everyone has one.. And when you feel yours is more valid than others, then often times, that makes you just an *******. I have had multiple people who have rode in my 350 and my 450 say it's a better ride. My wife who knows nothing about cars and is someone who never notices anything different, even noticed it.
But since you're opinion is the absolute truth and no one can tell you any different.. You're right Benzman.. 100%, you're never wrong and your opinion trump's everyone else's. So you're right.. Ok? Happy? Lol tool...

+1...I didn't wanna get into the fray, but if somebody doesn't notice a big difference with an almost 2 second faster 0-60 time, then they are either numb from the neck down or never pushed the pedal to the metal. The 450 has a 120 more horses, that's a significant power bump that's noticeable. Audi for example has an internal policy, that an RS model has to have at least 100 hp more than the lower S model. That's a very common horsepower figure to distinguish the next higher engine trim. The 580 has a 140 hp more than the 450, so you can see the pattern. Obviously going from a 350 to a 580 would be two jumps up and double the horsepower, so I guess it depends on what one considers night and day.

Why are you making a big deal about someone’s opinion? It’s an opinion. You know nothing about how benzman drives. I was with someone recently who was going 35 in a 45 zone. Obviously he was not going to be impressed with 0 to 60 times and wouldn’t notice the extra power. Benzman said he couldn’t justify the extra money. Why would that bother you? Why is that condescending?

The 450 is a great car, I'm not nocking it at all. Just for me I wouldn't jump to a 450. I don't even have my 24 350 anymore...

I had a GLE 350 loaner for about 1200 miles while my 450 was in the shop. Both 2020's. I live at 5,000 ft, and this was during fall color time in Colorado, so I spent time on tourist-filled two lanes, ranging up to 12,000 ft. I got a good 350 vs. 450 comparison.
Regarding the usual turbo effects - you get used to the lag in city driving by anticipating it, and it's gone once you're rolling.
The difference highway driving, especially passing, is that the 350 runs out of power at about 80 MPG, where the 450 runs out at about 95. My 53 runs into its wall of air at about 110. (I.e. All could go a lot faster, but they're not accelerating as quickly at those speeds.) (It's Aerodynamics. At the track where I have to leave both front windows down, my 53 runs out of power at about 95, and I run out of track at 125.)
That extra passing power on two lanes is important for my location, driving style and safety.
I'm not all that aggressive, but a car going 20 under while holding up a dozen cars is something I'd like to clear if I'm trying to get somewhere.

I've owned performance cars before. Porsche's, BMW M5's etc. Like I said top end power the 450 felt like it had more pull. To me it just wasn't a night and day difference, It didn't throw me back in my seat like my Panamera GTS did.

I can agree with that. For somebody with performance car background going from a 350 to a 450 isn't exactly earth-shattering. We get desensitized from driving performance cars. I'd take a 450 over a 350 purely for the smoothness and larger displacement of an I6 vs an I4, but otherwise neither one really does anything for me.

I personally picked the 350 as it was my daily driver and it wasn't my only car. For the type of driving that I do, the 450 wasn't worth the upgrade IMO. Like I said in my other post, I did live with the 450 for around a week maybe a little more. I did get to push it a few times, and like I said top end I could feel a difference, but not enough to go for the 450 imo.
I'm glad OP is happy with his purchase, I wish him the best of luck with it. I just don't want future potential owners to come across this thread and think "The 350 is not enough of a car, I need to upgrade to the 450". and have that in their head when they test drive both... Just don't buy or lease this car without a warranty
That's the perfect word for it "Desensitized". I've been blessed to have owned some amazing beautiful cars, as I'm sure you have. When you get into a 350 or 450 it's not OMG this performance is amazing! They're nice rides though.

M260 also had cylinder head recall, not sure if the M264 had similar recalls. The newer version used in the W206 C-Class as the form M254 is too early to tell.
So from a pure reliability standpoint, the M256 six-cylinder makes more sense if planning to keep for a while especially how the M256 six cylinder is less stressed than the 4 cylinder M264 especially on heavy accelerations. Haven't heard much about engine failure from M256.. other than this one on the forums: https://mbworld.org/forums/cls-coupe...e-failure.html

That last mileage in turn is around 2mpg better than what I get in the E450 All-Terrain (lighter vehicle than the GLE450 by around 800lbs), under similar driving conditions. I think in the next couple of fill-ups, the mileage should improve by another 2 mpg in Comfort (based on my prior experience), now that the break-in is fully done, which is better than what the EPA states for Hwy alone.
I'm voicing my opinion for others who come across this thread and are trying to decided if they should go from the 350 to 450. You're very happy with your 450 and that's great. I said IMO like 5 times. The 450 to me isn't worth the price increase for the small performance gain. I didn't feel a massive difference when having it for a week. Neither did my passengers. This is my experience with the 450. I'm not saying my opinion is better. Not everyone feels the same as you.
The 350 engine (2.0L 4-cyl turbo) is an excellent pairing with the smaller GLA/GLC, however.
There had also been reliability issues with the previous MB four cylinders... such as M274 with wrist pin and also cracking cylinder although that was likely caused by LSPI.

I don't personally think the 350 engine is a good pairing with the GLE. It is noticeably underpowered, for a 5000lbs vehicle. As people stated above, a 5.3sec 0-60 is WAY different than a 7.0 sec 0-60. Very, very easily noticeable, objectively, and not just subjectively.

Had a 450 and saw a 63 that had all the options I wished the 450 had. Test drove it and there was no comparison. I do wish comfort mode in the 63 was as smooth as the 450 but I have a S580 for that ride. If they would only fit out the GLE's as nice as the S models...
Excluding the break-in mlles (which was around 23.4 and 24.5 in mixed-driving of 60% state hwy and 40% city in Comfort mode, under break-in driving conditions of constantly varying rpm within the 3K upper threshold), the mileage has risen to 26.3 during my last fill-up (a small portion of it being still break-in miles), in ccmfort mode, under similar driving conditions. I am certain that if I were to put it on Eco, it would have easily pushed it over 30mpg (32-33mpg is my guess) and ECO is where the 48V gets used the most. My car is still too young.
