Stowage Compartment

Is there any way to turn off the heat that pours into the center stowage compartment?

I have the exact same question! I once kept my lip balm in the storage compartment and it ended melting all over because of how hot it gets! I hope there’s an answer to this.

It is not a feature but a design issue, it might be the transmission heating it up. Youtuber throttle house recently talked about it in one of their GLS videos.

Thanks for sharing these. Mine seems to only heat up in winter when I have the heat on, and I normally have the heat turned up really high. I’ll do some tests next time I’m driving.

I mean, if it only heats up during the winter it indeed doesn't sound like it is coming from the transmission, I wonder if the heater is trapping air in that area for some reason.

As you know already, heat on ICE vehicles come from the engine, I wouldn't think MB used the transmission heat to heat the cabin as well by design.

Good question, that heated armrest and all is intentional but heating inside the storage compartment shouldn't be.

Their videos have good sense of humour, great entertainment and at the same time mostly valid points.

Do you have the rear heating and air conditioning controls? If you do, the AC lines and heater hoses run through the bottom of the center console.
That would explain why you are seeing it more in the winter when you have the heat on.
For an experiment, you could try setting the rear temp to cold and see if that makes a difference.

Yes but this is actually heated air I feel like it's being sent to the compartment.
