Traffic Sign Assist without DAP

Does anyone have a way / alternative to show speed limit on road being travelled for MBs without Driver Assist Package?
In the US there isn’t a legal requirement to have this on all new or recent cars.
i have a ‘24 350 and was surprised a basic feature like this wasn’t included, especially since 360 cameras and built in Navigation being quite good.

PS. Some suggested that getting a speed radar with GPS could be an option.

Contact BenzNinja or RJAutomotive. They both have it on their list of coding options. Not everything can be coded in some of the newer model years due to additional restrictions that MB has put in place, but they can better tell you if it's possible for your specific car.

Thanks for the suggestion. BenzNinja have been great. Very responsive and valuable assistance. They dont quite have a solution yet due to some regional constraints with US models from '24 onwards, but it seems they at some point.

Youre correct nobody offers coding for the 2024+ years. So theres no other option. Besides using your phone with maps. But thats not on the dashboard.

@EleBest is another reliable coder.

So does Google Maps, but those speed limits come from the map data and may be incorrect. For example if there's construction and the speed limit is temporarily lowered, Waze and Google Maps will display an incorrect speed limit.

I also use WAZE , always to watch for cops since I've tripped up a few times in last couple of years speeding. Naturally after I had swore of driving fast, really fast ALL the time.

I plan to activate just so it's more in front of me. I look at my dash and speedometer more than over at WAZE on my phone. Hopefully that will be helpful too.
I do have the WAZE speed alert on but wish it was more configurable and able to repeat reminders when over the speed limit by a user's choice of course.

just another perspective.

He doesn't know and/or doesn't have resources for how to work on new cars (there are no "special" regional constraints for US to be different from european cars, For US or european cars, it's either that somebody knows or doesn't know for both). Anyway, we have a forum sponsor here who can and knows how to code new Mbenz cars, with a spotless reputation, and he is active on this forum and not banned, and has helped already many 2024+ users here. His vendor sponsor account on this forum is @EleBest . Good luck and I hope u'll find a solution (and welcome to the forum).

Not really true. As @wildta said below, there is one reliable and sponsor, and there is also another one. Elebest coded my MBUX GLS already for many items. To my knowledge, he and RJ Automotive are the only ones (probably on the planet that I heard of on this forum) who knows and can code and also offers coding for new MBUX cars. Good luck

I had it on my previous MB and didn't like it. It couldn't distinguish between speed limit and minimum speed signs on interstates. If you get on a road between speed limit signs, it's useless until you come to a sign. It would also annoy me by displaying the yellow signs giving suggested speeds on curves.

FWIW, the technology has come a long way. Not sure what year you are talking about. The latest systems can distinguish between those things. I drove my current car in Europe for example as I picked it up in Germany as part of the European Delivery program and in Germany they have speed limit signs that only apply when wet, so even the rain sensor is tied in now and it ignores those speed limits unless it's raining. For the in between speed limit signs, the current systems fall back to the map database and show the prevailing speed limit. Not much else to go on even for us humans when we enter a road between speed limit signs. Today's systems therefore require the navigation system to be optioned. It also uses the map data to distinguish between highway speed limit signs and adjacent frontage roads. So as long as the GPS position is accurate enough and it knows whether you are driving on the highway lanes or adjacent frontage road, it picks up the correct speed limit sign. Works better on the fast lane than on the slow lane due to the inherent accuracy of GPS. The slow lane at times can be too close to the frontage road and it might have difficulty figuring out whether you are driving on the highway or the frontage road.

My 450e picks up the wrong sign all the time. On Illinois highways, it usually is showing the truck limit.

Your GLE? Well, it's a truck . Maybe the Germans didn't quite understand the difference between a semi and a truck. The truck speed limits do apply to vehicle's with trailers, too, though. Maybe they didn't quite integrate detecting whether you are towing or not. In all honesty, here in the USA I rarely pay attention to the speed limit it shows in the cluster. Speed limits are more of a guidance than a hard rule in this country. I did rely on it in Europe, though, and even had the automatic adoption of the speed limit for DISTRONIC enabled to help avoid getting caught by any of the many speed cameras. I have to pay attention next time I'm passing a truck speed limit sign.
