Thinking about a 2026 X5

After buying Mercedes for 30 years I'm thinking about jumping ship for a 2026 BMW X5. Happy with Mercedes but getting bored with the GLE. I've had 5 GLE's since 2019, GLE450 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024 GLE580 and GLE AMG53.

Looks like the next GLE refresh is 2027 and doesn't seem to me much changing... Would love to hear pros and cons of this move...thanks.

Funny, after having too many BMWs I'm looking at GLE 450e. Are you interested in X5 40i, 50i or PHEV 50e ?

Same for X5 - redesign schedule for 2027 model, so probably spring 2026 we can see it.

BMW generally offers more hp, sportier handling, less luxury. I'm not talking about AMG and M lines - those are different breeds.
Both SUVs made in USA.

They are very close in price (if compare apples to apples), features etc, so it's or personal preferences and boredom to choose one over another.

Did you test drive X5 ?

Why not a Cayenne?

I abhor anything with 48V, X5 is out for me.

I like the way the new X5 drives and the base engine. Negatives for me, compared to the GLE, way less rear seat room, and almost no physical buttons (GLE still has HVAC buttons).

I don’t care for the tacked on instrument display on the X5. Looks like it was added as an afterthought. Maybe the next version will be better.

I guess they are worried about the complexity of that system on various makes.

I looked at Genesis and decided against that because no mild hybrid...Mileage not as good as GLE or X5 -

If a car uses inline 6 instead of V6 it is generally more fuel efficient I seen even without mild hybrid but I understand it is not a common configuration outside bmw

I traded in a 2024 X5 for a 2025 GLE 450. The GLE rides much better. The X5 did seem to have slightly more power.

I'm on my third MB SUV. Had a ML350, GLE450 and now GLE63s. I honestly have no idea what I'll drive next that could possibly compare to the 63. I seriously looked at the X5 when I traded in the ML but there were two main deal breakers. As someone already mentioned, the rear passenger leg room is much less than the GLE and the dashboard instrument cluster doesn't compare to the GLE. The colours are not as vibrant, the resolution isn't as sharp and there are very few options for customization. I like the standard round speedo and tach gauges, on the X5 you are stuck with those funky BMW sport gauges which aren't appealing to me. Again, this is for sure personal preference, I'm sure there are those who love the BMW layout. The standard X5 is slightly quicker and sportier than the 450 but that wasn't an issue for me. I enjoyed my 450, had very very few issues in 4 years of ownership and so far, the 63 has been outstanding. I may just end up keeping this one for a while !

Most BMW's have done away with the physical button that allows you to deactivate the Auto Start/Stop feature. (Mercedes retains the button to deactivate Auto Start/Stop.) If you have an issue with the engine shutting off at stoplights, then you may want to verify that the X5 will allow you to deactivate Auto Start/Stop.

If there is a 48V mild hybrid system it might be smooth, I heard the only way to turn off auto start/stop in a bmw is to do individual mode and sport engine mode or something along those lines.

On the 2024+ models, most of the customization is gone on the GLE too.

The latest Genesis GV80 has a mild hybrid.
The 48V electric supercharger is mentioned in this video review here at 11:20 mark:

Precisely why I grabbed my 2023 and will likely keep it for a while ! I did miss out on the full screen Android auto but I'm hoping @EleBest comes up with a solution soon. He already has a solution for Carplay.
