Is this the hitch we need? Holy crap is that expensive!

Is it just a matter of hammering it in once to shave the paint down?

The odd thing is that, when searching MB parts US online stores, they all show the same part. It just won't fit a 2-in receiver.
I use a Reese ball mount that matches the requirements shown on the label on the actual hitch.
It took some doing to get it to insert fully, so I just kept at it until the paint wore off.
I had a different ball mount that fought me all the time until I removed its label. I was stymied by a piece of paper!
Edit - this should work

Your 580 is a better tow vehicle than the 1 ton in most metrics except carrying capacity. Brakes, cooling, chassis rigidity, modern suspension, tires. Thus better ability to avoid accidents.
Withing it's limits.
Unless you're towing a 5er, I hope you use a WDH. Here in the Gateway to the Rockies where the roads start to get curvy, it seems that the most "loss of control" accidents are 3/4 & 1Tons without a WDH. I'm been First on the Scene too many times, so I'm kind of a WDH zealot. 911 got to know my voice! "Is this Mike?" I always stop.
My 2011 Toaureg tow receiver was substantially larger than a 2” drawbar. The drawbar rattled and knocked like you wouldn’t believe. But it worked. I stuffed cedar shims in the gap and it helped until the wood was beaten to a pulp and fell out.
W166 receiver was perfect, different Tier 1 receiver supplier to MB but nevertheless a German company.
V167 seems bolloxed-up. Normal in the MB world.
Go to Tractor Supply and bring 6 different drawbars into the parking lot for test fits. Then buy the one that fits.

They are all tight until the paint wears off.
Bare metal is a good thing, because it adds another ground point, in addition to the 4/5/7 pin connector.

If the part has a ball attached to it, it can be called a "drawbar." Without the ball, it's usually called a "ball mount." They are also called "stingers'" and all terms are used interchangeably.
