Coolant leak

Low coolant indicator flashed today on my 2025 GLE 450 with 8000 miles. Went to dealer. They topped it off and send me on my way. Stopped at grocery store and noticed big leak from radiator. Hurried back to dealer. Left it there and got a loaner. They need testing. I’m assuming the radiator need replacing? And I’m Assuming warranty cover the defect? When I left the leak was even worse. Attached video of the beginning of leak.

Warranty coverage depends on what caused the leak. If they find that you hit a rock or something that holed the radiator, they may refer you to your insurance company. If it was caused by a defect, they will cover it under warranty. I'm surprised they didn't find the leak when you brought it in the first time.

As long as the vehicle/radiator has not been hit or damaged by something, then no problem being covered under warranty.

yes. Three minutes and sent me on my way. When I returned they apologized for not checking for leaks. Still waiting for it. May take over a week.

Low coolant level always means there is a leak somewhere in the system. If you know where the leak is, like in the water pump, you can temporarily top off the system, until you get a chance to change out the component that is leaking. But if you don’t know where the leak is, you shouldn’t top and go. You should determine the source of the leak, because there definitely is a leak.

yes. And I called the dealer and they won’t have an answer before Friday on what caused it, they said it take 4 days to diagnose. I have a road trip to Canada mid Aug. Hope it will be done by then as it’s my only car.

just curious if anyone installed a rock barrier to protect the radiator or it just one of those things that can happen? Those gaps in grill are kind of big.

There was a thread under the v167 AMG where someone installed a mesh part to prevent rock damage.

EDIT: found it

Thanks, and yes I'd do that if I had a 63.

How about one of these? People in Florida use them during love bug season.

I don't think the 53 has radiators in the lower openings. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll have to go look.

Gotcha. I see what you mean now. The V8 in the 63 probably requires different radiators. Makes me wonder what my 580 has...
