Considering the drive cross country for this. Would happily pay for the secret + the full cost of the labor/service so I can save time.

You can use anything, Chromecast, appletv, tethering, whatever you want, once you install a lvds box you have complete video access, still needs an aux input added and an a proper install.
It is much better then carplay that is too limited for most people.

Hey MJC - They do not (frustratingly). You need to use the wheel to adjust - nothing on can be controlled from the steering wheel related to CarPlay.

Check with your dealer buddy if the $99-$199 MB CarPlay upgrade kit will work for your VIN# - comes with Apple/Android cables - CarPlay is seamless - to activate Android Auto will take NetStar update to COMAND to make capable - again dealer parts dept needs to check your VIN# for compatibility..

the kit doesn't come from MB and it's from third party ? Its just the software update why won't MB provide us .....but other third party can do it?

It's a "mirror" of your iPhone screen - a HDMI interface going into a Video interface into the back of the center system... you navigate with your phone (including using Siri) and the system throw a "mirror" screen up on the center LCD

Every dealership I have been to the service department has been under staffed leaving them little time to research things that they don't have to. They also don't stray far from what the manufacturer tells them. There is also a chance that the 3rd party can't do what they claim and that I will be back to warn everyone here. The risk is a small one (only $299 for the unit) but it is worth knowing so I will report back either way.

I ordered the CAPMB-51 on the 10th and it still has not shipped yet as of the 20th. Just updating so people don't think I forgot to report back. I am surprised that there has been no reports from people who have received one yet.
